Senior Scientist II, CMC BioProcess Purification Development

AbbVie seeks a Senior Scientist II for CMC bioprocess purification development in South San Francisco. The role involves designing and optimizing downstream purification processes for complex biologics across development stages, leading technology transfer activities, and contributing to regulatory submissions for clinical advancement and licensure.
Responsibilities
- Develop, optimize, characterize, and scale purification processes for monoclonal antibodies and complex biologics
- Lead technology transfer to manufacturing sites and provide technical troubleshooting during clinical production
- Develop viral clearance strategies and oversee contract laboratory studies with protocol and data review
- Write technical publications, regulatory filings, and present work at scientific conferences
- Mentor junior scientists and maintain current knowledge of emerging bioprocess technologies
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree with 12+ years experience, or Master's with 10+ years, or PhD with 4+ years
- Demonstrated expertise in downstream bioprocess unit operations including chromatography and filtration
- Deep scientific knowledge in protein biochemistry, separation science, or bioprocess engineering
- Ability to independently design and execute laboratory experiments with critical literature evaluation
- Experience with affinity, ion-exchange, and hydrophobic-interaction chromatography platforms
- Proficiency in mechanistic modeling, statistical design of experiments, and data analytics
