Responsibilities Follow ALARA principles and scan patients with appropriate exposure and minimal repeatability. Always wear radiation badge(s) to track personal exposure. Utilize bismuth or lead shielding per established protocols. Monitor CTDI Volume to ensure appropriate dose. Properly identify patients by name/DOB, introduce yourself to the patient by first name, review prescriptions for accuracy and completeness, explain procedures, answer questions/concerns, and complete/initials history form. Obtain required bloodwork for GFR clearance and diabetic medication clearance for applicable patients. Verify pregnancy status in appropriate patient populations and obtain waivers as needed. Dispense oral contrast appropriately and provide clear instructions. Review informed consent prior to venipuncture for contrast and use aseptic technique when starting heplocks. Operate power injectors following manufacturer guidelines and select the appropriate injection protocol for the specific exam. Monitor contrast injection, recognize infiltrations promptly and communicate with the patient throughout the exam. Review prescription and protocol for appropriateness based on clinical information provided. Position patients correctly for optimal imaging. Demonstrate correct selection and proficiency in scanning established CT protocols. Cover appropriate anatomy and utilize proper scan parameters. Respect scheduled appointment times and communicate delays to reception staff and/or patients directly, including wait times for walk-ins. Review charge entry and notify appropriate administrative staff with necessary changes. Complete charge sheet accurately ensuring CPT4 code matches the exam performed. Start and complete examinations in ADS workflow and record required information on log sheets. Evaluate CT images for technical quality and provide concise, relevant history to the Radiologist for interpretation. Perform required post-processing and/or transfer appropriate images to dedicated workstations. Ensure prior exams and reports are available for comparison. Scan accompanying paperwork, annotate contrast volume and verify images in PACS. Recognize specific psychological (e.g., claustrophobia, anxiety) and/or physical needs of patients and determine when further assistance is needed. Promptly respond to contrast reactions and/or other situations requiring timely response. Document relevant information on adverse reaction and incident forms. Locate and use all necessary emergency equipment (code cart, oxygen, blood pressure monitor, pulse oximeter, etc.). Follow universal precautions including the use of gloves, gowns and masks as appropriate. Education High School Graduate or equivalent. Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technologist Program. Credentials CT State license. American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. BLS.
