Program Coordinator

Overview The International Student and Scholar Program Coordinator is responsible for programming that fosters the success and well‑being of the international community at UCR. The role includes identifying needs, developing learning outcomes, designing and delivering professional intercultural and support programs, and ensuring compliance with federal regulations that require orientation, informational, and cultural sessions for F‑1 and J‑1 students and scholars. Position Information The position is full‑time (100%) with general supervision. The coordinator will design, deliver, and evaluate orientation and support programs for undergraduate and graduate international students and scholars. Responsibilities also include outreach and campus training initiatives that equip faculty, staff, and students to create an inclusive international campus environment. Requirements Educational: Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience. Advanced degree in Student Affairs/Higher Education or a related field is required; preferred otherwise. Experience: 4–7 years of related experience. Required experience working with international students and scholars; demonstrated knowledge of their adjustment and support needs. Required experience in programming and event coordination/management. Required experience developing, facilitating, and evaluating support programs, intercultural training, and orientation programs for international students or scholars. Required experience living, working, or studying abroad. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident because the role includes duties as a Designated School Official. Travel outside normal business hours and occasional shift work required; overtime may be required. Skill in communicating effectively and professionally, working well in teams and with diverse groups, judgment and decision‑making, project and program management, and the ability to take initiative. Preferred skills: proficiency with virtual online platforms, social media, web content management; knowledge of university processes; second‑language proficiency; familiarity with common university‑specific computer applications. Key Responsibilities Develop, deliver, and review programs, projects, and events that create community, celebrate culture, and promote global engagement. Lead planning, marketing, and execution of International Student Orientation and other adjustment and support programs. Act as the primary logistics coordinator for ISS, facilitating program meetings and events, and co‑managing the departmental newsletter and social media presence. Design and coordinate community‑building events for students and scholars, and work with the scholar team to plan and execute scholar‑focused occasions. Guide students and scholars on complex and sensitive matters related to cultural adjustment and intercultural communication. Coach students and scholars to plan events and projects that foster the success and well‑being of the international community. Facilitate student‑led workshops on international student success. Manage peer mentoring programs, orientation leaders, event coordinators, and volunteers, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, and supervision. Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partners to coordinate programs and organize cultural events. Collaborate with others to plan and implement an outreach strategy that targets on‑campus and off‑campus supporters to raise awareness of international student and scholar support programs. Provide recommendations, reports, and metrics on the feasibility of new and existing programs, and devise preferred learning and service outcomes. Support international students in academic and socio‑cultural adjustment to campus, including pre‑arrival, arrival, and adjustment matters and referrals to campus partners. Propose an annual budget for programming events and execute events within that budget, working with administrative teams on hiring, room reservations, catering, and procurement. Serve as a backup Designated School Official during peak periods with minor immigration matters such as travel signatures. Perform additional duties as assigned.
