Salary: $22.63 - $25.14 Hourly Location: Meeteetse, WY Job Type: Permanent Full-time Job Number: 2026-01064 Department: Department of Transportation Division: Department of Transportation Opening Date: 04/13/2026 Closing Date: Continuous FLSA: Non-Exempt Job Classification: TNHM06 General Description The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a motivated and dependable Highway Maintenance Specialist to join our Maintenance Team in Meeteetse, Wyoming. This essential role supports WYDOT's mission to provide a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system for the traveling public. Under limited supervision, the Highway Maintenance Specialist performs a variety of roadway maintenance activities and plays a critical role in ensuring Wyoming's highways remain safe and operational year-round. Key Responsibilities Perform routine and emergency roadway maintenance Operate and maintain a variety of heavy equipment and maintenance vehicles Assist with snow removal and winter maintenance operations Repair road surfaces, signage, and infrastructure as needed Respond to hazardous road conditions and emergency situations Work effectively in a team environment and in varying weather conditions Follow and promote all safety policies and procedures Preferred Qualifications Experience in highway or general maintenance work Knowledge of and ability to operate heavy equipment Strong commitment to safety and teamwork Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions Minimum Qualifications Education: Associate's Degree (typically in Engineering) OR 2-4 years of progressive work experience in Highway Maintenance/Construction with knowledge at the level of a Highway Maintenance Technician. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License within 12 months of hire. Other requirements: Physical ability to lift and carry 50 pounds independently. Ability to operate equipment for long periods. Availability for emergency work calls at any time, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of specifications, standard plans, policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and traffic control standards. Knowledge of computer systems, work reporting requirements, and maintenance management practices specific to WYDOT. Knowledge of Federal and State requirements for the proper use of personal protective equipment. Knowledge of safe work procedures, first aid, CPR, and material safety data sheets for chemicals used in completing tasks.
