SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST

Summary You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST Department in the Naval Installations of NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY BETHESDA. Responsibilities You will serve as a NAVOSH safety consultant to all levels of management of the serviced organization. You will be responsible for safety resource management and planning. You will provide technical safety training to workplace supervisors and employees using a wide variety of materials, publications, exhibits and visual aids You will identify hazards and undesirable operational conditions. You will investigate mishaps and obtain statements from witnesses, photographs mishap scene, and records circumstances or mishap and extent of injuries. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-9Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-8 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Inspecting the work environment and identifying hazardous operational condition; 2) Investigating accidents and identifying the cause; 3) Preparing reports of inspection findings and accident investigations (e.g. witness statements, description of property damage, extent of injuries and contributing elements of mishaps and hazardous conditions occurring in the work environment). GS-11 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Developing local standards, guidelines, standard operating procedures and instructions to identify and eliminate or control safety hazards; 2) Analyzing mishap data (maintenance shops, maritime work, military training) to determine origin and develop techniques to prevent or reduce the possibility of mishaps; 3) Analyzing construction standards, practices and techniques, materials, equipment and utilities systems to determine compliance with building safety standards and to develop effective control of work and equipment hazards. Education In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience: GS-9 Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology OR Successful completion of two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology OR I have obtained an LL.B. or J.D. that is related to the position being filled. OR A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience GS-11 Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology OR Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology OR Successful completion of an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled.
