Senior Transportation Engineer

Position Summary HDR has an opportunity for a Senior Transportation Engineer to work with a team of professionals in planning, designing, and supporting construction of interstates, highways, urban streets and intersections, and pedestrian/bicycle projects in Northern California and beyond. The successful candidate will serve as a lead technical professional on projects, guiding mid-level and junior engineers, and performing design, detailed drawing, quantity estimation, and quality assurance for projects of varying scale. Responsibilities Lead the detailed development of urban roadway design projects. Perform quality assurance checks on major transportation projects on interstate and state highway systems. Serve as a technical expert in a specialization area, resolving problems of greater scope and complexity. Assume project‑management duties and interact with clients as needed. Supervise work of medium to large staff of professionals and technicians. Perform additional duties as required. Preferred Qualifications Experience with MicroStation, InRoads, AutoCAD, Civil3D, and Microsoft Office applications. Experience with all phases of Caltrans’ project development process. Required Qualifications Minimum of 10 years experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design. Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., PE or P.Eng). Demonstrated leadership and communication skills and ability to work with various teams. Experience should include urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, site planning, preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout, and CAD-based alignment plans. Experience coordinating survey, grading, drainage, utilities, and layout of various site items is a plus.
