Business Development Manager - Industrial

Job Description Position Purpose: Identifies, develops and executes long‑term integrated industrial/commercial contracts for Veolia, meeting targets for business type, risk profile and pricing. Maintains a sufficient balance of prospects in the pipeline to ensure continuity of sales. Responsible for driving the complete negotiation and evaluation process: filtering opportunities through the go‑no‑go process, organizing pitch meetings, driving internal approval meetings with management, and successfully negotiating opportunities with complex terms and structure. Fully drives contract execution and implements strategies including sales, marketing, communications and industry/market representation. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Lead the sales process by seeking business opportunities through interviews with customers, suppliers, and colleagues in other regions. Research customers, their partners, decision makers, procurement processes, and any history with Veolia. Interpret customer requirements and determine the best products. Recommend new services, products and applications for emerging developments; work with Veolia Engineering and Operations to adapt existing products to market needs. Prepare and deliver sales presentations focused on value; coordinate visits from Veolia technical staff and upper‑level management; arrange customer visits to Veolia facilities. Work with customer engineering/technical staff to obtain specifications and ensure expectations are clear. Manage internal technical audits and approvals for projects. Participate in proposal preparation, pricing, and presentations; conduct meetings, assign tasks, set deadlines, track progress, and ensure customer requirements and deadlines are met. Automate processes where possible and recapture historical data for future proposals. Lead negotiation with the customer, including agreement preparation and financing solutions; maintain liaison with operations, finance, legal, insurance, risk management and other Veolia teams. Maintain current business development database; prepare monthly reports and memos to communicate opportunities, corrective actions, and forecasting support. Keep abreast of new products, specifications, industry trends, competitor strengths and weaknesses; attend trade shows and seminars; communicate opportunities to other Veolia locations and business units. Work Environment Spend most time in an office environment. Spend 50% of time at customer offices. Spend 30% coordinating sales activities in the market area. Travel 65–75% of time. Possible hazards: dust, fumes, toxic/caustic chemicals, rotating machinery, high pressure, hot or cold work temperatures, slippery surfaces, water and electrical hazards. Qualifications Education/Experience Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science preferred; otherwise comparable technical and commercial experience. At least ten years of progressive sales experience in a related field with a proven track record of complex business transactions, pricing, project finance, financial models and proposal writing. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Review and negotiate complex legal contracts (with attorney support). Knowledge of wastewater treatment, boilers, cooling water, raw water treatment, onsite solids and waste management, and material recovery. Knowledge of Veolia business, services, capabilities and inter‑relationships within the Veolia Group. Knowledge of potential customers and national trade organizations; relationships with engineering, construction, equipment vendors and financiers. Knowledge of competitors and industry strategies. Knowledge of assigned markets, prices, legislation, suppliers, and contract structures. Understanding of internal and external economic factors affecting assignment areas. Effective project planning, time management and organizational skills; ability to meet deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication, reporting, presentation and interpersonal skills. Adapt communication style to diverse audiences. Proficient with word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software. Commitment to compliance with laws, regulations, and company policies. Team player who can assume additional responsibilities. Required Certification/Licenses/Training Valid driver's license with a safe driving record (if operating company vehicles). Physical Requirements Standing 25%, Sitting 50%, Walking 25%. Use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or enter confined spaces. May use stairs, ladders, catwalks and supports at heights up to 50 ft. May lift and/or move up to 50 lb. Requires close, distance, color vision and ability to adjust focus for process monitoring. Additional Information Pay Range: $140,000 – $180,000 per year.
