This role is part of our commercial side and supports the estimating and bidding process for commercial flooring projects.

Position overview

The Flooring Estimator is responsible for reviewing plans and specifications, completing accurate takeoffs, preparing estimates, and helping the team build competitive, well-scoped commercial flooring bids. This role works closely with sales, project management, vendors, and installers to make sure project scope, material quantities, labor assumptions, and pricing are accurate from the start.

Key responsibilities

• Review architectural plans, bid documents, finish schedules, and specifications for commercial flooring projects.
• Perform accurate quantity takeoffs for carpet, LVT, VCT, sheet vinyl, base, transitions, prep materials, and other flooring-related scope.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates including material, labor, floor prep, freight, and other project-specific requirements.
• Build and submit bid proposals, quotation sheets, and supporting estimate documentation for commercial work.
• Identify scope gaps, exclusions, alternates, and potential risk items before bids are submitted.
• Coordinate with vendors and manufacturers on pricing, product availability, lead times, specifications, and proper applications.
• Communicate with project managers, sales staff, general contractors, and internal team members regarding bid details, revisions, and change orders.
• Assist with submittals, shop drawings, material lists, and change order pricing as needed.
• Maintain organized bid files, estimate records, and project documentation for future reference and scope comparison.
• Help support a smooth handoff from estimating to project execution by clearly documenting assumptions, scope, and material quantities.
• Manage and monitor all pre-job and job-related scheduling tied to your estimates, including site visits, job walks, measure appointments, and project start dates.
• Follow through on scheduled items by confirming dates with GCs, subs, and internal teams, and updating the calendar when changes occur.

What success looks like in this role

• Estimates are accurate, clearly organized, and submitted on time.
• Bid scope is well understood, with fewer missed items and fewer surprises after award.
• All related scheduling (job walks, site visits, measures, start dates) is entered, confirmed, and updated so the team always knows what is coming up.
• Material quantities, labor assumptions, exclusions, and key dates are documented clearly enough for the team to execute confidently.
• Communication is proactive, especially when plans are unclear, pricing changes, scope needs clarification, or schedules shift.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience in flooring estimating, construction estimating, project coordination, or a related role.
• Ability to read blueprints, specifications, finish schedules, and construction documents.
• Strong understanding of flooring materials, installation methods, and floor preparation requirements preferred.
• Strong math, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
• Comfortable working with estimating software, spreadsheets, and digital plan systems.
• Able to manage multiple bids, deadlines, and follow-up tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Reliable, self-directed, and willing to take initiative in a small-business team setting.
