Associate Mechanical Engineer - Nuclear Power

Location Gaithersburg, MD, US Position Title Midlevel Mechanical Engineer Key Responsibilities Work collaboratively with various design engineering execution teams across the US and abroad. Under general supervision, perform all aspects of mechanical system design engineering and analysis for assigned systems of responsibility. Acquire knowledge of both Black & Veatch and industry standards and implement them in project development. Prepare moderately complex engineering deliverables, conduct research, and develop project design recommendations. Continue learning and remain current on departmental design guides, standards, systems, engineering codes and Black & Veatch policies and procedures; apply them to assigned tasks. Develop and apply knowledge independently; comply with Black & Veatch quality program; support continuous improvement and change management efforts. Prepare a variety of increasingly complex engineering deliverables; perform research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection; collect, assimilate, and manage data for engineering work; perform complex calculations following standard methods and principles; understand and adhere to budget, schedule, and quality requirements; recognize, define, and resolve problems within the assigned area; provide direction and guidance to others. Assign tasks to develop entry level professionals and interns; coordinate with project leadership and other internal/external team members on less complex projects; interact with other disciplines on design details. Understand external client’s interest and drivers through regular interaction and communication; also focus on needs of internal clients and project leadership; provide support to business development or pursuit activities. Share current knowledge of latest technology and processes. Assist with performance management process, recognition, and corrective actions as skills develop; actively mentor entry level professionals and interns. Preferred Qualifications Experience in instrument and/or service air systems. Experience in demineralized (DM) water supply and make‑up systems. Experience in service and potable water supply systems. Experience in natural, hydrogen, and nitrogen gas supply systems. Experience in closed‑cycle cooling water systems. Experience with high pressure / intermediate pressure / low / auxiliary steam systems. Experience with feedwater and condensate systems. Experience with CO2 supply systems. Ability to perform pipe sizing, pipe thickness, pump sizing, control valve sizing, heat exchanger sizing, atmospheric tank sizing calculations. Experience with P&ID development. Experience with air, gas, water, and steam systems in typical design & engineering work. Minimum Qualifications Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program in the applicant’s home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of 1 year related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements, including background check, drug screening, and motor vehicle records search. Certifications Engineering‑in‑training (EIT) Work Environment and Schedule This position requires working in a typical office environment with prolonged periods of sitting and computer use; focus and attention to detail throughout the workday are essential. Physical tasks may be required during site visits, including crouching, grasping, standing, and walking for extended periods. Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based on manager discretion, performance, and work assignments. Compensation Annual salary range: $99,324.00 – $165,876.00. Job Grade: 015. Other Requirements U.S. citizenship is required.
