Nuclear Medicine Technologist

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist provides health care services utilizing radionuclides to assist in diagnosis or treatment. This role involves performing nuclear medicine procedures and related techniques, producing images for interpretation by a licensed practitioner. The technologist exercises professional judgment in service delivery while maintaining high standards of medical ethics. Patient care is prioritized, recognizing conditions essential for successful procedure completion.

• Perform diagnostic Nuclear Medicine procedures.
• Corroborate patient clinical history with procedures, ensuring documentation is available for the licensed practitioner.
• Prepare patients for procedures and provide instructions to minimize anxiety and ensure cooperation.
• Select and operate radiation detection, imaging, and associated equipment effectively.
• Position patients and equipment to optimally demonstrate anatomical areas of interest while ensuring patient comfort.
• Immobilize patients as necessary during examinations.
• Prepare, calculate, identify, and administer radiopharmaceuticals and/or medications per practitioner prescription.
• Evaluate images for technical quality, ensuring proper identification is documented.
• Verify informed consent for interventional procedures and assist licensed practitioners as required.
• Practice aseptic techniques when necessary.
• Assume responsibility for both physical and emotional needs of patients throughout procedures.
• Initiate basic life support actions when required.
• Maintain knowledge of and observe Universal precautions.
• Perform venipuncture as needed.
• Assist in maintaining records while respecting confidentiality and established policies.
• Oversee assigned area and report equipment malfunctions.
• Provide input for equipment purchases and supply decisions.
• Offer practical instruction for students and other healthcare professionals.
• Participate in the department's quality assessment and improvement plan, including specific quality control responsibilities.
• Control inventory and purchase supplies as required for the assigned area.
• Apply patient relations skills effectively.
• Pursue continuing education necessary for maintaining licensure or certification.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Support the mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures of the organization.
• Participate in required education for relevant programs as applicable to the position.
• Be available to float to other departments where qualified before core staff is floated.

Education

• Required: Associate or Bachelor's degree from an accredited nuclear medicine program.

Licenses/Certifications/Registrations

• Required: OBMI and ARRT registered nuclear medicine technologist; current BLS certification.

Working Conditions

This position is primarily performed in an indoor healthcare environment, such as a hospital or clinic. While the setting is protected from outdoor weather, it may experience variable indoor temperatures. Frequent exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous materials is expected, with adherence to safety protocols and personal protective equipment (PPE) use required. The role demands quick responsiveness to changing circumstances and
