Surgical Technologist II

Performs scrub and related duties in the operating room. Responsibilities & Duties Work under the supervision of the RN Circulating Nurse and according to hospital standards/policy. Utilize the Surgeon Preference Card to identify and gather all necessary supplies, equipment, and instruments for each operative procedure. Ensure proper handling of contaminated instruments and clean the room after cases. Perform housekeeping duties as needed. Assist the surgeon by anticipating needs and providing instruments and other materials in a timely manner. Take direction from M.D. staff or R.N. when necessary, especially in emergency situations. Assist in other O.R.s as needed, pick procedure supplies for the next day's schedule, restock supply areas and O.R.s, organize supply cupboards, and update Surgeon Preference Cards. Maintain Joint Commission standards and assist with unit readiness for Joint Commission visits. Participate in department performance improvement activities. Cross‑train to each surgical specialty area at both campuses, if needed. Collaborate with supply chain specialists and leadership to provide input into acquisition and needs for supplies and equipment. Provide patient care and education according to the patient population served. Serve as a role model by carrying out activities and behaviors that reflect the values and principles of the Boys Town mission. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Maintain confidentiality. Communicate well verbally and in writing. Utilize a variety of computer programs to manage work. Follow AORN guidelines for perioperative practice. Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with public, other consumers, and other employees. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduate from an accredited surgical/operating room technician program, and/or minimum of two years experience in an operating room required. Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) and maintenance required. CPR (BLS) certification required. Physical Requirements Sedentary to medium work, occasionally exerting up to 50 pounds of force.
