Schedule: Monday - Friday | 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Location: Heavy Industrial Scrap Metal Facility

About the Role

We are seeking a dependable and hardworking Material Handler to join a leading metal recycling and processing operation. In this role, you will play a vital part in sorting, moving, loading, and unloading metal materials while supporting daily warehouse and yard operations. Key Responsibilities

• Sort and organize scrap metal and recyclable materials for processing.
• Load and unload incoming and outgoing trucks safely and efficiently.
• Move materials throughout the warehouse and yard using proper material handling techniques.
• Perform general labor duties to support daily production operations.
• Lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds throughout the shift.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Follow all company safety procedures and PPE requirements.
• Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Support warehouse, production, and recycling operations as needed.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to meet daily production goals.

Required Qualifications

• Experience in manufacturing, warehouse, production, or industrial environments.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work throughout the shift.
• Comfortable lifting up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Ability to work in a loud, dirty, and fast-paced industrial setting.
• Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety.
• Reliable attendance and ability to work a consistent first-shift schedule.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in scrap metal, recycling, construction, or heavy industrial environments.
• Material handling, shipping/receiving, or general labor experience.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work assignments.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Experience working in a union environment is a plus.

Work Environment

This position is based in a busy scrap metal yard and warehouse environment. Employees spend approximately 50% of their time indoors and 50% outdoors , working around heavy equipment, machinery, and industrial materials. The facility can be dusty, noisy, and physically demanding, making it an excellent fit for individuals who enjoy active work and hands-on environments. Full PPE is required and provided, including hard hats, safety glasses, high-visibility vests, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots. Rain gear is also available for outdoor work during inclement weather.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.50 - $23.50/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
