Senior Payroll Tax Professional

Senior Payroll Tax Professional The Senior Payroll Tax Professional serves as the subject matter expert (SME) for U.S. payroll taxation, with full ownership of payroll tax compliance, reporting, and governance across federal, state, and local jurisdictions. This role is critical to the organization's ERP transformation, ensuring payroll tax requirements are clearly defined, tested, and implemented in new systems and processes. Reporting to the U.S. Payroll Manager, this position goes beyond transactional processing. It supports tax accuracy, enhances team capabilities through training, manages complex payroll tax scenarios (including expatriates and gross-ups), and serves as the primary point of contact for employee payroll tax inquiries. Payroll Tax Ownership & Compliance Oversee and execute all U.S. payroll tax activities, including federal, state, and local filings (Forms 941, 940, W-2, W-3) Manage quarterly and year-end processes, amendments, and corrections Ensure compliance with all applicable tax regulations across jurisdictions Reconcile payroll tax balances and align with the General Ledger Manage tax notices and agency correspondence Utilize ADP SmartCompliance for tax processing and reporting Subject Matter Expertise & Advisory Act as the primary internal expert on payroll tax matters Provide guidance on complex payroll tax scenarios and regulatory updates Maintain current knowledge of payroll tax laws and legislative changes Employee Support & Complex Cases Respond to employee payroll tax inquiries Manage complex cases, including expatriate taxation, gross-ups, and multi-state taxation Partner with HR, Employment Tax, and Global Mobility teams Training & Capability Development Train and mentor payroll team members on tax-related processes Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) and training materials Serve as an escalation point for payroll tax issues ERP Implementation & Transformation Act as payroll tax SME for ERP implementations (e.g., Oracle Fusion, PeopleSoft) Define payroll tax requirements and ensure accurate system configuration Support system testing, validation, and issue resolution Partner with project teams to ensure compliant payroll tax processes in new systems Process Improvement & Controls Drive continuous improvement in payroll tax processes and internal controls Conduct audits and strengthen documentation practices Support system enhancements and change initiatives Stakeholder Management Collaborate with Payroll, HR, Accounting, Tax, Legal, and Audit teams Partner with external providers (e.g., Dayforce) Support leadership reporting and analytics Operational Support Provide support for payroll processing as needed Ensure accuracy of payroll inputs and outputs Perform other duties as assigned by the Payroll Manager Qualifications High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Accounting degree preferred Minimum of 7+ years of payroll and/or payroll tax experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience) Demonstrated experience preparing and filing payroll tax returns (Forms 941, 940, W-2, W-3, and state/local filings) Extensive multi-state and multi-jurisdiction payroll tax compliance experience Experience with payroll systems such as PeopleSoft or Oracle Proficiency with ADP SmartCompliance preferred Skills & Competencies Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to train, influence, and support team members Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to work effectively in a team environment while taking ownership of responsibilities #J-18808-Ljbffr
