Senior Estimator

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanical Estimator to join our Preconstruction team in Richmond, Virginia. This role is ideal for professionals with a strong background in mechanical systems and field operations who are ready to apply their expertise in estimating HVAC and plumbing systems for complex commercial and industrial projects. You will play a key role in developing accurate, competitive, and strategic cost proposals for projects including hospitals, high-rises, government buildings, data centers, and universities.

A day in the life:

• Analyze construction documents, specifications, and drawings to determine project scope and requirements.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates for HVAC, sheet metal, plumbing, and piping systems.
• Collaborate with project managers, field operations, and design teams to ensure alignment between estimates and execution strategies.
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure competitive pricing and scope coverage.
• Contribute to conceptual and design-phase budgeting efforts.
• Identify value engineering opportunities that enhance project value and reduce costs.
• Support proposal development and client presentations with technical and cost-related insights.

You should have:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Construction, or Construction Engineering Management
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical estimating, with a strong understanding of HVAC and plumbing systems.
• Prior field operations experience in mechanical construction is preferred.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with a detail-oriented approach.
• Familiarity with estimating software, such as Autobid, and Microsoft Excel for cost modeling and analysis.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments.

This position is primarily office-based, but occasional travel may be required to visit job sites, vendor facilities, and client offices.
