Description

American Traveler is hiring a Labor & Delivery RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring at least 2 years of L&D experience and advanced AWHONN fetal monitoring certification.

Details

• Family Birthing Center unit covering L&D, Mother-Baby (postpartum), and OB
• 4 L&D beds and 8 Mother-Baby beds
• Patient ratios: L&D 1:2 (1:1 during active delivery), Mother-Baby 1:4 (couplets)
• Approximately 45 deliveries per month including standard L&D, term, preterm, and couplet care
• Transfer mothers at 34 weeks and below; no high-risk deliveries handled on site
• Newborns may require IV antibiotics and/or short-term oxygen
• General GYN patients also cared for on this unit
• 2 RNs and 1 RT present during every delivery
• Uses Cerner EMR
• 12-hour night shifts, 1845-0715
• Schedules posted 6 weeks in advance; no self-scheduling; report given at bedside
• Every other weekend required (Nights: Fri, Sat, Sun)
• No floating outside of L&D or Mother-Baby
• OB and Anesthesia on-call at night; Hospitalist/Intensivist in house during the day
• RT available 24/7; Pharmacy available 0630-2200 with on-call pharmacist overnight
• No tele or vent patients
• No dedicated IV team or nurse aides
• Charge nurse typically does not take patients but provides break relief

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience required
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS, NRP, and AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AFM)
• STABLE certification preferred
• Must be able to work independently and manage emergencies with limited overnight resources
• Two supervisor references required (charge nurse accepted): one within the last 12 months worked and one within the last 3 years worked

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care across L&D, postpartum, and general GYN populations
• 2-3 day floor-specific orientation with a preceptor
• Scrubs provided by the facility
• Holiday coverage required for 2 of 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's); holidays rotate in with core staff
• Holiday time off considered but not guaranteed
• Facility-wide orientation for this region takes place in Sacramento, not at the local facility
• Closest sister hospital is approximately 1 hour away
• First-time travelers may be considered
