Overall Job Function:

We’re looking for a dynamic, entrepreneurial leader to drive the growth and success of Member’s Cut , our retail meat business. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who sees beyond day-to-day operations and is energized by the challenge of building a thriving retail business.

As Director of Business Operations , you’ll have broad responsibility for the performance of Member’s Cut—from sales and profitability to people, inventory, customer experience, and operational excellence. You’ll play a key role in shaping the strategy, identifying opportunities for growth, and turning those opportunities into results.

You’ll lead and develop the team, optimize inventory and purchasing, create an exceptional customer experience, and ensure the highest standards of food safety and compliance. Just as importantly, you’ll own the numbers—managing costs, improving margins, maximizing efficiency, and finding new ways to grow the business.

Essential Job Functions:

Lead daily store operations including staffing, scheduling, training, and supervision.

Ensure compliance with health, safety, sanitation, and food handling regulations.

Develop and implement retail and wholesale growth strategies with the objective of consistent profitable top and bottom-line growth.

Ensure Member’s Cut consistently delivers the highest quality, unique products in a high-end, high service environment, with product quality and service top of mind in all aspects of the business.

Implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for quality assurance and service consistency.

Develop and manage store budgets, including labor costs, overhead, and cost of goods sold (COGS).

Analyze profit margins, product pricing, and vendor terms to ensure competitiveness and profitability.

Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly sales performance; prepare and present performance reports to management. 

Identify opportunities for cost control and waste reduction across operations and purchasing, instilling a culture of continuous improvement.

Oversee cash handling, reconciliations, banking, and financial reporting in compliance with internal controls.

Manage inventory levels to ensure optimal stock rotation, minimize shrinkage, and avoid overstock.

Build and maintain relationships with vendors, negotiate pricing, and source high-quality meat and ancillary products.

Implement inventory tracking systems for accurate forecasting and restocking.

Ensure excellent customer service through team coaching and customer engagement.

Resolve complex customer concerns or complaints with professionalism and a focus on retention and growth.

Plan and execute sales promotions, product launches, and seasonal campaigns to drive foot traffic and increase basket size.

Monitor customer feedback and adapt service strategies accordingly.

Collaborate with marketing teams to manage in-store promotions and local advertising.

Maintain store branding, signage, and presentation to reflect quality and professionalism.

Engage with the local community and build partnerships to strengthen brand reputation.

Contribute to long-term business planning and expansion strategies.

Evaluate store performance and market trends to recommend new product lines or services (e.g., delivery, online orders).

Stay informed on industry developments, competitor activity, and changing consumer demands.

Other duties as assigned.

Secondary Job Functions:

Wraps, weighs, and labels product.

Performs cleaning in the department.

Provides input on goals and pricing.

Assists in other areas of store as needed.

Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.  

Qualifications:

5 or more years of retail food management experience, preferably in meat retail.

Strong understanding of business finance, budgeting, and retail analytics.

Proven leadership and team development skills.

In-depth knowledge of food products, food safety, and inventory practices.

Experience with POS and inventory systems; proficiency in Excel and business software.

Excellent problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills.

Work Requirements: 

This position will work indoors where conditions can be cold, wet, humid or hot. Equipment utilized will be knives, slicers, sausage stuffers, band saws, smokehouse, curing machines, etc. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, and airborne particles. The noise level is usually moderate but occasionally may be loud. PPE will be provided and must be utilized when applicable and according to safety standards. Typical store hours are 7am to 7:00 pm, Monday through Friday and Saturday 9:00 am until 5:00 pm but will flex based on customer and organizational demand.

While performing job functions the employee will be required to talk and listen most of the time. The employee will spend frequent intervals moving and standing for long periods of time, while also needing to reach, bend, twist, crawl, crouch, stoop or kneel. The employee will need to be able to lift up to 75 pounds occasionally and 50 pounds frequently. The physicality of this job is high.
