Vehicle Service Technician

The City of Billings is seeking a Vehicle Service Technician to perform a variety of semi‑skilled work involved in the servicing, repair, and maintenance of automobiles, buses, trucks, and other motor driven equipment and vehicles. Salary Range: $21.2193 - $27.0498 per hour. Salary reflects Step 1 and Step 6 of a 7‑step pay scale. Salary at hiring will be dependent upon the applicant's education, experience, and training. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 1:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Services automobiles, buses, trucks and other motor driver equipment and vehicles with fuel, oil, and lubricants. Washes and steam cleans vehicles. Repairs and changes tires. Checks equipment and automotive batteries, coolants, and lubricants. Moves vehicles and equipment from place to place, test drives and transfers vehicles, as required. Observes and reports defective parts or operation of equipment serviced. Provides road service and towing. Performs minor welding duties. Completes basic forms of services performed including work orders, mileage sheets, parts, and service books. Sweeps and cleans garage and performs snow removal. Provides assistance and information to co‑workers. Maintains written records of repair and servicing of vehicles and equipment. Travels to different worksites to perform maintenance duties. Handles firearms and personal equipment for removal and security from police vehicles. Performs facility security and lock up at end of work shift. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications And Skills Minimum of one (1) year of specialized training beyond high school in the auto and truck repair and maintenance trades. Minimum of two (2) years of related experience, or equivalent. A valid Montana Class B Type 2 commercial driver’s license with no air brake restrictions, or one must be obtained within ninety (90) days of employment. Must be forklift certified or certification must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment. Must provide your own tools adequate to perform the duties of the position.
