SCHOOL BUS DRIVERS

Thank you for your interest in the Pittsford Central School District! We are seeking bus drivers to join our team. We have full and part‑time positions with flexible hours. As a bus driver, the successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation and routine daily maintenance checks of a school bus used in the transport of students on an assigned route to and from school and on athletic and field trips. They will need to be able to operate a full‑size or mini‑size school bus or van, and/or transport passengers with or without disabilities. Employees may be required to physically assist passengers to and from the bus or to operate a hydraulic lift for this purpose. Employees are responsible for the safety and conduct of passengers while in transport and may be accompanied in transit by a bus attendant or other staff member. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of a more senior transportation employee or administrator. Direct supervision may be exercised over bus attendants. Does related work as required. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES Drive a school bus/vehicle on a regular schedule on an assigned route or on special occasions Perform a pre‑trip inspection of the vehicle prior to departure and post‑trip inspection after every route Report all defects, mechanical and other, of the bus/vehicle to the supervisor Inform passengers about safety practices and procedures when embarking and disembarking a bus/vehicle, while in transit, and throughout the year Maintain safe and orderly conduct on the bus/vehicle, including student management Assist passengers in boarding and exiting a bus/vehicle by providing physical assistance or operating a hydraulic lift Clean and fuel assigned vehicles daily Operate a van, station wagon, or similar vehicle to transport objects FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS Good knowledge of vehicle and traffic law, regulations of the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles, and regulations of the Commissioner of Education (New York State Education Part 156.3 Transportation Regulations) pertaining to pupil transportation Good knowledge of safe driving practices and defensive driving; good knowledge of the geography of the employing school district or municipality Ability to operate a bus under all driving and road conditions Ability to understand oral and written directions Ability to physically assist passengers on and off buses Ability to get along well with children/students/passengers and command their respect Mental alertness; visual and audio acuity; dependability; courtesy Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position The Pittsford Central School District provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, marital status, amnesty, or status as a covered veteran in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must be over 21 years old and in possession of a valid CDL license with air brake, passenger and school bus endorsements. Training will be provided for applicants currently holding a regular class D driver’s license. Before employment, drivers must pass both a physical examination and a drug test SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Each year after employment, drivers must pass a physical examination. PCSD must obtain a driving record from the appropriate agency in every state in which the person resided or worked during the preceding 3 years. Drivers must complete a Driving Record Abstract check. If the driver has driven a commercial vehicle, the new employer must contact previous employers for the past 10 years. New as well as current drivers will be subject to a criminal history check by requiring said drivers and applicants to submit to a mandated fingerprinting procedure as part of the school bus driver qualification procedure. #J-18808-Ljbffr
