Instrument Processing Tech, SPD, Full-time, Second Shift

Location Cincinnati, OH, United States Qualifications High School diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree preferred. Upon one year of hire, obtain and maintain certification as a CRST. Employed for at least one year of SPD experience; preferred experience is three years. Responsibilities Decontamination functions – Disassembles, cleans, and disinfects instruments and related equipment using manual and mechanical processes. Operates sonic washers, cart washers, washer sterilizers, and decontaminators. Unloads case carts with soiled instruments and places them in the designated area. Performs cleaning tasks as assigned while using universal precautions (gloves, face shield, protective gown). Uses the computer system to track instruments and case cart status. Assembles Instrument Trays and Packs – Unloads instruments from washer sterilizers and distributes them to appropriate workstations. Assembles instrument trays and packs following written instructions and protocols. Applies sterilization wrappers correctly and uses a heat sealer as needed. Identifies each item on the outer packaging, transports trays to the sterilization area, and consistently uses barcode technology to track productivity. Utilizes the computerized instrument‑tracking system to validate tray production against online lists and error‑proofing systems. Operates sterilizers and manages documentation – Loads trays, packs, and basins onto the sterilizer loading rack using proper procedures. Operates various types of sterilizers (Steam, Plasma, Steris) in accordance with manufacturer instructions and departmental guidelines. Documents all sterilization information accurately, performs biological monitoring per policy, handles sterile supplies correctly, restocks sterile storage, rotates supplies, and inventories expiration dates. Maintains a clean, organized work area and equipment to meet safety standards. Assembles Case Carts per Departmental Procedures – Produces pick sheets from the computer and pulls instruments and sterile supplies per pick sheet accurately and completely. Other Duties As Assigned – Active participant in QA activities, assists in training associates, attends departmental in‑services and mandatory meetings, acts as liaison between Sterile Processing and all customers, communicates courteously, differentiates between low and high priority activities, delivers equipment and supplies to various departments as needed, and performs on‑call duties.
