Growing together.The Phlebotomist performs venipuncture and capillary puncture on adults, neonates, and pediatric patients; collects urine specimens; performs EKG on adult and pediatric patients; participates in the instruction of new personnel; works with computer; communicates in a manner that promotes Laboratory professionalism as well as a comfortable phlebotomy. The Phlebotomist processes lab specimens.Schedule: This is a 40-hour work week Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:30 am to 6:00 pm. Rotating Saturdays between the hours of 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. The schedule will be determined by the hiring manager upon hire.Location: 90 South Bedford Road, First Floor, Mount Kisco, NY 10549 (may travel for coverage too: 355 Kear Street, Second Floor, Yorktown Heights NY 10598, 111 Bedford Road, Second Floor, Katonah, NY 10536, and 537 North State Road, First Floor, Briarcliff, NY 10510)Primary Responsibilities:Perform routine phlebotomy proceduresAbility to distinguish sample types and draw requirements with order of draw for lab testingNavigate laboratory computer system with minimal to no errorsPerform pediatric and adult phlebotomyObtain finger stick collectionVerify patient demographics accurately with two patient identifiersAdhere to safety and scientifically accepted infection control practices and standardsBlood collection: from adult and pediatric patients using vacutainer, syringe and butterfly techniques; capillary puncture using heel and fingerstick techniquesIdentifies and labels specimens appropriatelyInstruct patients regarding urine and stool collection proceduresEnters accessing data into the computerPrepares specimens for sending out testingInventories supply and prepare phlebotomy stations to effectively collect bloodAttends required meetingsFunction as an effective team memberWork cooperatively alongside physicians, nurses and other ancillary staffDisplay effective communicationMaintain pace of over 4-6 patients per hourEnhances professional growth and development through in service meetings and education programsPerforms EKG procedures and Holter monitoringMaintains patient confidentialityPerforms related work as requiredProvide quality customer service to the patients and visitors courteously and promptlyMust possess solid interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with co-workers, Management Staff, and PhysiciansMust be able to work effectively and cooperatively as a team member, balancing both the support of the physician(s) and following the financial policies established by OptumDemonstrate professionalism in appearance and actions with patients, staff, Physicians and Administrators alwaysMaintains confidentiality of patient informationTravel to all other draw stations and perform all tasksTroubleshoot problems within LIS and partner with LIS team to resolve outstanding issuesIncluding but not limited to:Follow handwashing protocolsPractice aseptic techniquesUtilize protective barriersUtilize personal protective equipment, e.g. gloves, lab coatsMaintain proper disposal of hazardous materialsDemonstrate knowledge of role in emergency disasterMaintain pace of over 4-6 patients per hourTravel to all other draw stations and perform all tasksReasons to Consider Working for UnitedHealth Group:Put it all together - competitive base pay, a full and comprehensive benefit program, performance rewards, and a management team who demonstrates their commitment to your success. The hourly pay for this role will range from $16.15 to $28.80 per hour based on full-time employment.
