Brush Secondary Campus serves students in grades 6 through 12 and is home to a thriving athletic program that includes 13 high school sports, 8 middle school sports, and more than 45 teams across intermediate, junior varsity, and varsity levels. Student-athlete participation rates exceed 58% campus-wide.Brush competes as a member of the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) and the Patriot Plains League (HS) and Junior Patriot League (MS). The district is committed to providing every student-athlete with a safe, professionally supported athletic experience, and the addition of a full-time Certified Athletic Trainer is a cornerstone of that commitment.The Certified Athletic Trainer will be a meaningful, community-facing role with direct impact on the lives of student-athletes, their families, and the coaches who work alongside them every day. The successful candidate will help establish the foundational systems, protocols, and culture of a new athletic training program — a genuine opportunity to build something from the ground up.Job SummaryThe Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) provides comprehensive athletic training services to middle school and high school student-athletes under the direction of the Student Activities Director and school administration, and in collaboration with licensed physicians and healthcare partners. The ATC is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, management, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses, as well as the development and implementation of Emergency Action Plans, concussion management protocols, and injury prevention programs across all sports and seasons.This position supports the District's commitment to student safety, well-being, and equitable access to high-quality extracurricular programs. The ATC serves as the primary on-site medical resource for all student-athletes, acting as a liaison among student-athletes, coaches, parents, physicians, and school administration to ensure continuity of care and informed return-to-play decision-making.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Certified Athletic Trainer shall:Develop, implement, and oversee sport-specific injury prevention programs, conditioning protocols, and preparticipation screening for all athletic teams.Apply protective and preventive devices including taping, bandaging, bracing, and padding as appropriate.Coordinate and assist with pre-participation physical examinations; maintain records of medical eligibility for all student-athletes.Evaluate facilities, fields, and equipment for potential hazards; communicate concerns to appropriate personnel and administration.Monitor environmental conditions (heat, lightning, field conditions) during practices and contests and enforce District and CHSAA safety protocols.Conduct and manage the Wrestling Weight Control Program.Conduct and manage the District Random Drug Testing Program (High School)Injury Evaluation and Immediate CareEvaluate athletic injuries and illnesses at practices and competitions; provide immediate care, emergency management, and referral to appropriate medical professionals as needed.Serve as the first responder for all on-site medical emergencies involving student-athletes, including cardiac events, heat stroke, concussions, and spinal injuries.Develop, implement, and annually review campus-wide Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) for all athletic venues in collaboration with administration and local emergency services.Maintain current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications and ensure appropriate emergency equipment is accessible at all venues.Concussion Management and Return-to-PlayConduct on-site concussion evaluation using standardized assessment tools; manage the full continuum of concussion care from initial injury through graduated return-to-play.Ensure compliance with Colorado law and CHSAA concussion management protocols; serve as the campus point of contact for all concussion-related documentation and communication.Determine student-athlete readiness to return to participation in consultation with supervising physicians and in accordance with District, CHSAA, and state guidelines.Communicate clearly and promptly with parents, coaches, and physicians regarding concussion status, restrictions, and return-to-learn/return-to-play progression.Rehabilitation and ReconditioningDesign and supervise individualized rehabilitation and reconditioning programs for injured student-athletes under the direction of the referring physician.Coordinate with outside physical therapists, physicians, and specialists to ensure continuity of care and compliance with medical directives.Provide on-campus rehabilitation services that reduce the need for student-athletes and families to seek off-campus treatment during the school day, minimizing lost instructional time.Monitor multi-sport athletes for cumulative injury load, overuse risk, and readiness across overlapping seasons.Documentation, Administration, and CommunicationMaintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation of all injuries, treatments, and services rendered in compliance with HIPAA and FERPA requirements.Establish and maintain a comprehensive medical records system for all student-athletes, including injury reports, treatment logs, physician orders, and return-to-play clearances.Communicate regularly with the Student Activities Director, coaches, school personnel, parents/guardians, and healthcare providers regarding student-athlete injury status and participation readiness.Assist in the development and management of the sports medicine budget in collaboration with the Student Activities Director.Maintain inventory, organization, and cleanliness of the athletic training facility and all sports medicine equipment; manage supply ordering within approved budgets.Prepare and submit required reports, injury surveillance data, and program evaluations as requested by administration.Education and Community EngagementProvide education to coaches, students, and parents/guardians on injury prevention, concussion awareness, nutrition, heat illness, and safe athletic participation.Conduct annual sports medicine in-service training for the coaching staff.Support the development of a student sports medicine aide program as interest and resources allow.Serve as a resource for the District's broader wellness and health education efforts.Teach Sports Medicine Courses at High School (if applicable)Perform other duties as assigned that are consistent with the scope and purpose of the position.QualificationsRequiredBachelor's degree from a CAATE-accredited Athletic Training Education program.Current Board of Certification (BOC) credential as a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC).Current licensure (or eligibility for immediate licensure) as an Athletic Trainer in the State of Colorado through the Division of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) under C.R.S. § 12-205.Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.Knowledge of and ability to apply CHSAA policies, Colorado concussion law, OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards, HIPAA, and FERPA requirements.Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of coaches, administrators, healthcare providers, students, and families.Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including extended time on feet, outdoor work in variable weather conditions, and response to emergencies, with or without reasonable accommodation.NATA/CATA membership in good standing (willing to obtain if hired)PreferredMaster's degree in Athletic Training or a related fieldExperience in a secondary school athletic training setting.Experience developing or managing an athletic training program, including EAP development and sports medicine program administration.Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems used in athletic training settings.Spanish language proficiency (bilingual candidates encouraged to apply).Work Schedule and ConditionsThis is a full-time, 11 month classified position.
