The Civil/Environmental Engineer functions as an integral part of the design team for the Fed-Florida Business Unit projects. Technical duties in civil and environmental engineering require adaptability and versatility. Examples of technical work to be performed include civil site design (greenfield and retrofit); water resource management planning, design and permitting; flat infrastructure design including utility (gravity and pressure systems) and roadway design; environmental assessments and permitting; minor structural (retaining wall and equipment foundations/pedestals) design.

Specific engineering tasks include but are not limited to developing design engineering documents (plans, specifications and calculations) for facility maintenance and repair projects and new construction. In support of the work, engineers will perform detailed cost analyses and material take-offs of a variety of building types and site infrastructure throughout the US and other countries and perform construction management for ongoing construction efforts.

This position operationally reports to the Director of Civil and Environmental Design Operations.

Technical Responsibilities (85-90%):

• Perform project direct billable functions and responsibilities to maintain a personal utilization rate of 85%-90%.
• Assist our engineering teams in various phases of project development, from concept design to implementation and testing. Ensure project team members create deliverables that meet or exceed the customer's expectations and standards. Own issues and drive them to resolution with internal and external customers.
• Maintain accurate and comprehensive project documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and progress reports.
• Communicate effectively in person and in writing to keep customers, contractors, and project teams well informed of pertinent information in a timely manner. Assumes responsibility for filling in gaps in customer communication.
• Responsible for performing engineering tasks such as site design, permitting, assessments, and construction management.
• Adheres to Project Management Plans (PMP) and Quality Control (QC) programs as assigned but does not change them without approval.
• Communicates design concerns or input to Engineer of Record (EOR) and/or Design Lead and Project Manager.
• Participates in Fed-Florida Quality Control Program (reference "Project Quality Control Policies and Processes").
• Ensure adherence to Fed-Florida's quality control standards, including pass-through services/consulting.

Business Development Responsibilities (5-10%):

• Tactical business development – As requested, review RFP/RFQ/SOW as well as prebid drawings and specifications to determine resource requirements and risk/benefit potential for each assigned proposal opportunity to provide input to the Director of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Operational Responsibilities (5-10%):

• Assists the Director of Civil and Environmental Engineering in specialized projects to advance the growth of Fed-Florida. These tasks may include but are not limited to mentoring interns/new hires, providing input for process improvements, assisting in the development of our continuously growing training program.

Qualifications:

• BS Civil Engineering degree required from an ABET-accredited program
• 5+ years of professional Civil Engineering experience
• EIT Certification preferred; ability to obtain PE Certification within 1-2 years required.
• Proficient in Microsoft 365 applications
• Should have working knowledge of the ASCE, AWWA, FDEP, ICC, ASTM, and UFC codes; with a preference for knowledge of the FBC, IBC, USGBC LEED and AFMAN/SSMAN requirements.
• Experience with Civil3D, AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam Revu, or other modeling/drafting software is highly preferred.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

• Valid/Unrestricted driver license

Work Authorization/Security Clearance:

• Must be a US Citizen for Security Clearance requirements.

Location: Merritt Island, FL/Bethesda, MD

Travel: Up to 25%

Compensation & Benefits:

The expected base salary range for this role in Merritt Island is $75,000 - $90,000 USD per year and in Bethesda, MD is $95,000 - $115,000 USD per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors, including skills, experience, qualifications, and location.
