Job Title: Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor & Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Nights, Every Other Weekend Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS (AHA or ARC) ACLS (AHA or ARC) NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) Must-Have: C-section experience required (circulate). Strong IV skills. Description: The unit features 10 spacious, private Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) rooms. There are 2 antepartum rooms and 1 operating room suite. On average, there are 50 births per month, totaling around 600 per year. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3 for couples and 1:1 for laboring patients. An anesthesia team is available on call with a 20-minute response time. The unit has a dedicated lactation counselor, unit secretary, maternity educator, and nurse aides/OB tech support. Mothers labor and deliver in the same bed, with newborns staying in bassinets beside them for skin-to-skin care. The department emphasizes strong teamwork and collaboration. Units are recognized for their commitment to safe sleep practices. There is minimal use of nursery care as the philosophy centers on keeping infants close to their mothers. Holidays require one major and one minor holiday commitment. Weekend shifts are scheduled every third weekend, with potential adjustments based on staffing needs. The facility operates with 24/7 pharmacy services and offers floating opportunities to the NICU for feeders and growers only. Additional support is provided by the IV team, and the charting system used is EPIC.
