Academic Intervention Specialist - Math (Licensed) Job Details Job ID: 5636887 Application Deadline: Jun 15, 2026 11:59 PM (Mountain Standard Time) Posted: Apr 09, 2026 6:00 AM (UTC) Starting Date: To Be Determined Job Description Academic Intervention Specialist (AIS) Summary of position: The Math Academic Intervention Specialist (AIS) provides intensive targeted academic support to students who require intervention beyond what is provided in the general education classroom. The AIS delivers small-group or individualized instruction designed to address specific academic skill deficits and support students in meeting grade-level expectations. The AIS plays a central role in the school’s Multi-Layered System of Supports (MLSS) by providing Layer 3 academic interventions, monitoring student progress, and collaborating with classroom teachers to adjust instruction based on student performance data. The AIS works closely with classroom teachers via the MLSS Team Meeting process to identify students requiring intensive academic support and to monitor the effectiveness of intervention strategies. The AIS also works directly with the SSD and SAT (as assigned) to identify students for MLSS Layer 3 academic support. Role Boundaries and Escalation : The Academic Intervention Specialist provides MLSS Layer 3 academic intervention services to students requiring intensive academic support. The AIS has professional authority within their licensure to: Provide targeted academic intervention through small-group or individualized instruction Conduct progress monitoring to evaluate the effectiveness of intervention strategies Analyze student performance data to adjust intervention instruction Collaborate with classroom teachers regarding strategies to support struggling learners Provide professional recommendations to SAT or MLSS teams regarding student academic needs The Academic Intervention Specialist does not : Provide specially designed instruction through an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or deliver IEP service minutes Determine special education eligibility or placement decisions Supervise or evaluate staff Interpret school policy or make administrative decisions Students who continue to demonstrate significant academic difficulty despite intervention may be referred through the Student Assistance Team (SAT) for further review. Concerns related to program implementation, staffing, or intervention services must be escalated to the Student Support Director or school administration. The Academic Intervention Specialist is obligated to respond to student misconduct in accordance with the NMIS Student Discipline Matrix and may implement Level 0 and Level 1 disciplinary responses as defined in the matrix. FLSA Status: Exempt (professional) School Personnel Act Classification: Licensed Contracted or “at-will” employment: Contracted Department and Overseeing Director: Student Support Department, Student Support Director (SSD) Immediate supervisor: Student Support Director (SSD) Compensation: Salaried, according to placement on NMIS Teacher Salary Schedule. See Appendix 1. Bilingual Education Teacher Stipend available for properly endorsed teachers servicing children in Spanish. See Appendix 3. Additional off-schedule raises may apply. Hours: Full-time employees must be present on campus M-F from 8:00am - 3:30pm, minus 30 minute lunch, per dates shown on annual NMIS Instructional Calendar. However, duties may extend beyond required on-campus hours. Part-time employees will have varied on-campus required hours/days proportional to their full time equivalency as agreed upon between administrator and employee. Standards of Performance Review: NMIS Academic Intervention Specialist Evaluation Receives Paid Personal Leave under NMIS Policy: Yes Certification/Educational Qualifications: Possess a current NMPED issued K-8 Elementary License or K-12 Specialty License with endorsement in relevant subject matter (e.g Language Arts, Reading, Math or Elementary Math Specialist) Possess an Endorsement in Bilingual Education (if providing support in Spanish). Current trainings in accordance with this Employee Handbook and GC Policy (e.g. Bloodborne Pathogens, etc.) Current background check in compliance with school policy Knowledge of current best practices and methodologies for supporting children with special needs. Knowledge and understanding of federal and state regulations and policies affecting Special Education. Familiarity with International Baccalaureate program and teaching methodologies and continual professional development in IB. Physical/Mental Qualifications Ability to supervise students safely in classroom and campus environments. Ability to stand for extended periods while providing instruction. Ability to lift and carry instructional materials up to approximately 30 pounds. Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Fluency in English required; Spanish fluency may be required for bilingual service assignments. Job Duties General Be physically present on campus according to the assigned work schedule and calendar. Abide by all NMIS policies, procedures, Employee Handbook provisions, and applicable sections of New Mexico Statute (NMSA) and New Mexico Administrative Code (NMAC). Maintain confidentiality of student and family information in accordance with FERPA and applicable law. Perform duties in a professional, ethical, and respectful manner consistent with NMIS expectations and professional standards. Comply with all required trainings, certifications, and safety protocols as assigned. Academic Intervention Services Provide small-group or individualized academic intervention to students requiring intensive instructional support. Design and implement intervention lessons targeting specific academic skill gaps. Monitor student progress regularly using appropriate assessment tools. Adjust intervention strategies based on progress monitoring data and student performance. Maintain records of student participation, progress, and instructional adjustments. MLSS Collaboration and Progress Monitoring Participate in Student Assistance Team (SAT) or MLSS meetings to review student progress and determine appropriate interventions. Collaborate with classroom teachers to coordinate intervention support and reinforce instructional strategies. Provide data and recommendations regarding student progress during intervention cycles. Communicate regularly with classroom teachers, special education staff and students’ families regarding the progress of students receiving intervention services. Assist in identifying students who may require additional supports or evaluation. Student Supervision Responsibilities Maintain a standard of care appropriate for the maturity level of students under supervision. Provide supervision of students in assigned school settings as required by school operations, including lunch, recess, arrival, dismissal, and field trips. Support implementation of student behavior or safety plans when supervising students receiving services. Additional functions Serve as a member of the school’s Pedagogical Leadership Team as assigned. Attend parent/teacher conferences as requested by classroom teachers. Assist students that require accommodations for bathroom access and usage per the student's 504 Accommodation Plan or Individualized Education Plan. Successfully and satisfactorily complete additional leadership duties if under a Level III license. Placing orders, as necessary, for classroom materials and supplies for current year and subsequent year and in accordance with NMIS policy. Other duties as assigned by the Student Support Director.
