Department Overview We are the Adult Medical-Surgical Oncology Inpatient Care Unit for OHSU. Our primary teams are Surgical Oncology, Medical Oncology, General Surgery, Bone Marrow Transplant, Neurological Oncology, Otolaryngology, Gynecology Oncology, and Radiation Oncology. We collaborate with PT/OT, Dietitians, Pharmacy, Social Work, Case Management, Speech and Language Pathologists and other members of the multidisciplinary health care team to provide exceptional care for our patients. Function/Duties of Position 1 Demonstrate performance consistent with Departmental, Divisional andOrganizational expectations and core competencies; maintain confidentialityand privacy of patient information; prioritize Health Unit Coordinatorresponsibilities and seek consultation when needed; perform area specificskills and follow established protocols; demonstrate fiscal accountability andthe effective use of resources 2 Prepare and maintain patient medical records; enter acuity of unit patients.maintain unit census documents/boards, photocopy and fax documents.maintain, order, and stock nursing unit supplies and resource materials; enterbilling data, open, sort and distribute mail; organize and maintain filingsystems: maintain logs and statistics related to unit operations; processphysician orders, as directed; Document in Soft Med.; prepare and maintain 3 Support patient and family centered care across the continuum through serviceexcellence: greet and screen visitors and provide information within unit defined standards; respond to call lights; provide unit orientation to patientsand families, health care team members, and visitors. Communicate in arespectful, caring and non-judgmental manner; answer multi-line phones,screen calls, transfer calls; schedule procedures and coordinate patienttransportation to ancillary appointments; communicate new orders toappropriate staff; locate and page physicians and staff. Communicate withhome health, SNF, and equipment suppliers to coordinate the arrangementsfor services as directed; obtain patient signatures as directed.25% 4 Participate in performance improvement activities, check for presence orabsence of required documentation and follow-up with responsible parties.collect and document quality data, as directed.15% 5 Serve as resource for wireless communication devices: assume responsibilityfor administration of wireless communications at the unit level: track wirelessbadges and batteries, assign bar code to new users, add new users to NurseCall as appropriate, notify ITG of neeed for training registration. Serve asresource for the integrated health record to include: first line support forquestions; resport problems to support desk; desseminate updates andinformaiton to staff; maintain competencies in current electronic health recordworkflows.15% 6 Assume responsibility for professional/ job related development, knowledgeof advances in technology, use of new equipment and appropriate applicationof hospital systems; maintain knowledge base essential to the role of HealthUnit Coordinator.5% 7 Participate in maintaining a safe environment of care, to include: daily unitrounds and posting EC Highlights. Support Infection Control measures, toinclude: auditing compliance with Isolation, Hand Hygiene and TB testing.Administer unit-level fit-testing. Recognize and respond to emergentsituations5% 8 Other duties as assigned Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. One year of clerical experience in a health care environment or equivalent combination of experience and training that would provide the knowledge and skills listed below. Basic knowledge of medical terminology, abbreviations and symbols. Ability to read, write and speak fluent English. Basic math skills. Demonstrated computer skills Demonstrated customer service skills Ability to prioritize and multi-task. Ability to perform the job duties with or without accommodation.
