Job Title: Operating Room Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Operating Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 40-hour day, 4/10-hour days with call rotation Hours per Shift: 10 Experience: O.R. nursing experience preferred License: Current RN license Certifications: ACLS upon hire or must hold an active BLS card and obtain AHA ACLS within 60 days of hire Must-Have: Ability to function in an environment with competing priorities, excellent communication skills, ability to multitask Description: Conducts interactions with everyone in a friendly, courteous, and respectful manner. Goes out of his/her way to offer assistance to others. If he/she cannot offer assistance, then finds someone who can. Advocates to ensure privacy and confidentiality while helping others to maintain awareness. Maintains a clean and safe environment. Responds appropriately and immediately in emergency situations. Maintains a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors, and/or staff to provide the highest level of physical comfort and minimize risk and injury. Ensures compliance with regulations to maintain accreditation and licensure. Complies with attendance and tardiness policies. Reports incidents in a timely and effective manner. All employees with direct patient contact are responsible for actively engaging in the practice of, monitoring, and enforcing compliance with hand hygiene. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing interventions, plans of care, and patient goals. Provides patient care based on standards of care, standards of practice, protocols, and established policies and procedures. Respects each patient as an individual and provides care that fosters the patient’s sense of dignity and positive self-regard. Provides patient and family teaching based on identified learning needs, readiness to learn, and barriers to learning. Collaboratively plans and prepares patient and family for discharge incorporating support systems and resources as necessary. Appropriately delegates and supervises nursing interventions performed by others. Appropriately prioritizes patient care and seeks assistance as needed from appropriate resources. Provides thorough, timely, and accurate documentation of all pertinent data, therapeutic interventions, and patient responses. Provides timely and thorough reports on assigned patients to other healthcare team members to ensure integration of services and continuity of patient care. Promotes learning for colleagues and self, functions as preceptor, instructor, and trainer. Proactively identifies risks to patient safety and opportunities to reduce medical errors. Identifies ethical issues in care and develops plans to address them. Safely administers medications and intravenous therapy in accordance with physician’s orders, protocols, policies, and procedures. Assesses patient pain level upon admission and as necessary. Reassesses effectiveness of pain control and notifies physicians as needed, documenting assessment and patient responses. Responsible for obtaining supporting information and completing required documentation related to medication reconciliation. Collaborates with the surgical team to assure the patient's well-being during surgical intervention. Maintains sterile fields and directs the correct care, handling, and sterilization of supplies and instruments. Identifies patients correctly by checking identification and consent forms, verifying operative procedure, and site before taking patients to the operating room. Applies principles of aseptic practice and oversees the selection and preparation of supplies, equipment, and instrumentation. Applies principles of body mechanics and adapts them to various situations during patient positioning and transfer. Assures that all techniques and practices carried out during surgical procedures are accurate and reflect standards of perioperative practice. Maintains sponge, needle, and instrument counts according to policies and procedures, notifying the surgeon of the results. Identifies, labels, cares for, and handles all specimens and cultures according to established policy and procedure.
