SUMMARY

This position is over all Chief Engineers on all fleet vessels with concentration on the Blue Water vessels. This position directly reports to the Vessel Manager position and works with the Maintenance Manager, Port Engineers, and Chief Engineers to assure that all Preventive and Corrective maintenance is performed on the vessel’s engines is performed correctly, and in a timely manner, as well as train and direct the Chief Engineers and Engine Room Crew, (Mechanic, Watch Engineer, Oilers) on how to perform the repairs and preventive maintenance. This can be a Five day a week job to dredge locations but could be required to work weekends if needed to correct engine issues in the field.

The Technical Engine Superintendent is expected to:

• Increase engine reliability and fleet availability.

• Reduce unplanned engine failures.

• Improve preventive maintenance compliance.

• Standardize maintenance practices across the fleet.

• Improve technical competency of Chief Engineers and Engine Room crews.

• Reduce maintenance costs through proactive maintenance planning.

• Improve documentation quality within the maintenance management system.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop, maintain, and enforce Company technical standards for propulsion engine operation, maintenance, overhaul practices, inspection procedures, spare parts management, and engine room housekeeping to ensure consistent maintenance quality across all Company vessels.

• Direct and train Chief Engineers, Engine Room Crew, (Mechanic, Watch Engineer, Oilers) on how to maintain their engines.

• Work with Maintenance Manager and direct Chief Engineers to document the corrective and preventive actions taken to maintain the engines to optimal performance.

• Direct Chief Engineers to maintain and store correctly the spares required to keep the engines operating at optimal performance.

• Perform audits on Chief engineers for engine operating condition, engine performance, performed maintenance completed, engine room conditions, specialty tools required for maintaining the engine, engine logs, spare parts and documentation of services performed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

The employee must have:

• Extensive knowledge of GE and MAK engines.

• Supervision of staff/crew members

• Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic skills

• Strong trouble shooting, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance skills

• Strong analytical skills

• Strong mentoring skills

• Ability to comply with safety rules and regulations.

• Ability to work away from home at remote project locations for extended durations.

• Must be reliable and motivated.

• Ability to obtain TWIC.

• Knowledge of operation of various types of marine equipment, tools, and devices.

• Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors.

• Competencies: stress management/composure, teamwork, results driven.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee must perform the job's essential functions with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.

The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal flotation devices (PFD’s), or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.

In addition, the employee must also be capable of:

• Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.

• Standing, stooping, twisting, bending, crouching, kneeling, squatting, climbing, or sitting repetitively and/or for long periods of time.

• Repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance of work.

• Must be able to lift and carry 30lbs individually. Anything greater than 30lbs and up to 60lbs will require additional lifting means.

• Must be able to push and pull at peak force of 150lbs.

• Climbing stairs and/or vertical ladders of a height of 6ft or greater.

• Working in confined work areas and/or elevated heights.

• Adapting to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration.
