Facilities & Life Safety Director

Senior living community in Fairfield County, is seeking an experienced Facilities Director to lead the maintenance and physical plant operations of our community. This role is responsible for ensuring a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained environment for residents, families, staff, and visitors.

The Facilities Director oversees all aspects of building operations including preventive maintenance, capital projects, regulatory compliance, and supervision of the maintenance team.

Key Responsibilities

Facilities & Plant Operations

• Oversee the day-to-day operation of the community’s physical plant, including building systems, grounds, and infrastructure.
• Maintain all mechanical systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and emergency power systems.
• Ensure the community is maintained in excellent condition, addressing maintenance issues promptly and proactively.

Preventive Maintenance

• Develop and manage a comprehensive preventive maintenance program.
• Maintain detailed maintenance logs and documentation for equipment and systems.
• Ensure all life safety systems are inspected and maintained according to regulatory standards.

Regulatory Compliance

• Ensure compliance with all  local, state, and federal regulations governing assisted living facilities.
• Maintain readiness for inspections and surveys related to life safety and building operations.
• Work collaboratively with leadership during regulatory reviews.

Capital Projects

• Coordinate and oversee capital improvement projects and major repairs.
• Work with contractors, vendors, and ownership to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
• Provide recommendations for long-term infrastructure improvements.

Team Leadership

• Supervise and support maintenance staff.
• Establish schedules, assignments, and performance expectations.
• Foster a culture of accountability, responsiveness, and pride in maintaining the community.

Emergency Preparedness

• Participate in the community’s emergency preparedness program.
• Ensure building systems and emergency equipment are operational.
• Respond to after-hours facility emergencies as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of facilities or maintenance leadership experience , preferably in senior living, healthcare, hospitality, or commercial facilities.
• Strong knowledge of  building systems, preventive maintenance, and life safety systems .
• Experience managing vendors and capital improvement projects.
• Ability to supervise staff and manage multiple priorities.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Working knowledge of regulatory requirements in healthcare or senior living settings preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in  assisted living, nursing home, or healthcare facilities management
• Knowledge of  life safety codes, fire safety systems, and emergency preparedness requirements
• HVAC, electrical, or building systems certifications a plus.
