Pediatric Surgical Technologist

As a Pediatric Surgical Technologist at our healthcare team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and success of surgical procedures for our pediatric patients. You will work closely with our surgical team to prepare the operating room, equipment, and supplies, as well as assist during surgeries, maintain a sterile environment, and provide support to the surgical staff. Your dedication to pediatric care and surgical expertise will make a significant difference in the lives of our young patients and their families.

Responsibilities

• Preoperative Preparation
  • Set up the operating room with the necessary surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
  • Verify the accuracy and functionality of equipment and instruments.
  • Ensure the operating room is sterile and ready for the surgical procedure.
• Assisting During Surgery
  • Pass surgical instruments and supplies to the surgical team as needed.
  • Maintain a sterile field throughout the procedure.
  • Anticipate the surgeon's needs and provide timely assistance.
  • Handle specimens appropriately for laboratory analysis.
• Postoperative Duties
  • Assist in the cleaning and sterilization of equipment and instruments.
  • Restock the operating room with supplies.
  • Prepare the room for the next procedure.
• Collaboration and Communication
  • Collaborate effectively with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a smooth surgical process.
  • Maintain clear and accurate records of surgical procedures.
• Patient Care
  • Provide emotional support to pediatric patients and their families before and after surgery.
  • Assist with patient positioning and transfer to and from the operating table.
• Continuing Education
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in pediatric surgical technology.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development.

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) credential required. National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting Certification - required
• Minimum of 2 years Pediatric surgical experience required in the last 5 years.
• Strong knowledge of surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile techniques.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure surgical situations.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining a sterile environment.
• Compassion and empathy for pediatric patients and their families.
• American Heart Association BLS certification required.
