Must-Have:
Must have 3 years of Labor and Delivery experience.
Must have mother-baby experience.
Must have experience and be able to attend deliveries and complete 1 hour of newborn care, triage, circulate C-sections, and provide postpartum couplet care.
Must have experience with magnesium.
Charge nurse experience preferred.


Description:
The department consists of 14 Labor and Delivery beds.
Patients stay in the same room during their stay.
There are 2 operating room suites on the unit for C-sections.
Registered nurses will circulate and recover patients in the operating room.
The unit has 4 triage beds.
The average number of births per month is 90, totaling around 1200 births per year.
AWHONN staffing standards are followed, with a 1:1 ratio for labor unless pairing cervical ripening patients.
Postpartum care is provided at a ratio of 1:3 couplets.
Triage is typically 1:3, but if the number of patients increases to 4, a resource nurse will be utilized.
Common diagnoses include patients at 32 weeks gestation or greater, hypertension, and gestational diabetes.
The unit serves a diverse population.
Mandatory for RNs to titrate drips, with common protocols including Pitocin and magnesium.
An administrative supervisor is present on every shift.
Charge nurses do not take an assignment.
Resource nurses and triage nurses may start their shift with no patients.
Resource nurses assist with breaks and attend deliveries.
An OB hospitalist and a neonatal nurse practitioner are available 24/7, along with anesthesia.
There are no telemetry technicians on the unit; RNs are expected to read their own strips.
The electronic fetal monitoring system used is Centricity.
There is flexibility with block scheduling, and weekend requirements are based on unit needs.
Travelers will receive notice prior to their shift start for floating assignments.
A no fingernail lacquer policy is in place, and acrylic or gel nails are not permitted.
Travel duos will need two vehicles, as they may be assigned to different sites.
Compliance and system assignments must be completed before starting.
Cancellation policy allows for up to 4 shifts to be canceled during the 13-week assignment.
