PET Technologist - Job Description

Position Summary

The PET/CT Technologist performs PET and computed tomography (CT) imaging procedures while providing safe, compassionate, and patient-centered care. This position prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals, operates PET/CT equipment, obtains and processes diagnostic images, and maintains accurate documentation in accordance with established protocols, regulatory requirements, and radiation safety standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepare, educate, and safely position patients for PET/CT procedures, including verification of patient history, orders, and preparation requirements.
• Prepare, handle, and administer radiopharmaceuticals according to established protocols, regulatory requirements, and radiation safety standards.
• Perform PET/CT examinations, including patient positioning, image acquisition, processing, reconstruction, and quality evaluation.
• Operate PET/CT and related imaging equipment and perform required quality control procedures.
• Review images for technical quality and completeness and obtain additional imaging as directed by the radiologist or nuclear medicine physician.
• Accurately document patient, procedure, radiopharmaceutical, and imaging information in the RIS, PACS, EMR, and other designated systems.
• Monitor patients during procedures and communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
• Maintain patient confidentiality, follow safety and regulatory requirements, maintain professional competency, and perform duties within the scope of education, certification, and licensure.

Required Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology/Radiography program.
• Current ARRT certification/registration in Radiography.
• Certification in Nuclear Medicine through ARRT(N) or NMTCB, as applicable.
• CT certification and/or documented clinical competency as required by applicable regulations and organizational standards.
• Minimum of one year of PET/CT experience preferred, or completion of an approved PET/CT training program with appropriate clinical experience.
• Current state licensure as required.
• Strong technical, communication, organizational, and patient-care skills.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while performing examinations and monitoring patients.
• Ability to safely assist with patient transfers, positioning, and repositioning, including patients with limited mobility.
• Ability to frequently bend, reach, and perform repetitive movements while operating equipment and assisting patients.
• Ability to push, pull, and move imaging equipment and supplies and lift or assist with patients as required.

• Gamma camera and related nuclear medicine equipment, as applicable.
• Radiopharmaceutical preparation and monitoring equipment.
• PACS, RIS, EMR, and related computer systems.
• Standard office and clinical equipment.
