Position Overview

This Assistant Controller opportunity supports the Chief Accounting Officer and is responsible for leading the day-to-day accounting operations for a high-volume, multi-entity retail environment. This person will oversee core accounting functions, drive process improvements, support month-end and year-end close, and serve as a key leader across financial reporting, compliance, audit coordination, and team management.

Key Responsibilities

•Lead daily accounting operations across financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, audit support, and tax compliance.

•Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, management reports, variance analysis, reconciliations, and closing entries.

•Oversee external financial and sales/use tax audits and serve as a primary point of contact for auditors.

•Provide hands-on leadership for a large accounting team, including mentoring, coaching, performance management, and prioritization of department workflows.

•Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting procedures, and written policies while identifying opportunities for process improvement.

•Partner cross-functionally with operations, purchasing, advertising, real estate, e-commerce, and store leadership to support business needs.

•Support periodic physical inventory activity and help standardize reporting tools, analytics, and templates for the broader accounting function.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Must-Have Qualifications

•Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.

•10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership of accounting teams.

•Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, reconciliations, and month-end close.

•Experience building and maintaining accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.

•Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

•Experience with ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including lookups, queries, and pivot tables.

Preferred Qualifications

•Prior experience in a retail or high-volume multi-location environment.

•Experience supporting tax compliance, external audit activity, and multi-state operations.

•Experience with data analysis, reporting tools, and process improvement initiatives.

•Ability to operate in a hands-on leadership role and balance strategic oversight with day-to-day execution.

This is a Permanent position based out of Pontiac, MI.

The pay range for this position is $92000.00 - $110000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

Working on company benefits, should have them by the end of the week

This is a fully onsite position in Pontiac,MI.

This position is anticipated to close on Sep 7, 2026.
