Job Title: Phlebotomist Profession: Laboratory Specialty: Clinical Lab Tech I Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 8 hours (20:00 - 04:30) Experience: Minimum of 2 years required License: California State CPTI-Certified Phlebotomy Technician I Certifications: Valid certifications required Must-Have: - Previous charge experience preferred - Experience with specified charting systems preferred - Ability to prioritize patient collections based on order requests Description: The Laboratory Technician I is under the general direction of the Laboratory Manager and his/her designees while performing duties. Primary job responsibilities include the collection and preparation of blood samples. Correct identification of patients and specimens is essential. Transportation and handling of specimens must be performed diligently. The Laboratory Technician I will also perform all related clerical functions. Specimens will be processed according to laboratory policy. Special projects may be assigned as needed. Weekend work is required every other weekend. Daily patient ratios are maintained to ensure quality care. Candidates should possess the following skills: Aseptic technique, blood culture procedures, specimen storage, and processing. Knowledge of proper labeling and disposal methods is necessary. Familiarity with testing procedures and patient education on specimen collection will enhance patient care. Successful candidates will demonstrate quality assurance and controls knowledge. The role involves understanding the mode of action of additives in blood collection tubes.
