ASSISTANT PROJECT MANAGEROverland Park, KSFull TimeFull Benefits POSITION:The Assistant Project Manager is an early-career role designed to develop the next generation of project leaders at Goebel Mitts Construction. Working under the direct mentorship of a senior Project Manager, the APM will gain hands-on exposure to the full project lifecycle from preconstruction and scheduling through field execution and closeout across a diverse portfolio of commercial construction projects. This is not a passive support role. The APM will be given real ownership of tasks and, over time, real ownership of projects. We are looking for someone with enough experience to contribute from day one and enough hunger to grow into a full Project Manager within 1218 months. If you thrive in a fast-moving environment, take pride in your work, and want a clear path forward, this role was built for you. Schedule: Monday - Fri (possible weekends) Time: 7:00am - 4:00pm (varies by project need)Must be flexible for extended hours / on-call QUALIFICATIONS: 13 years of experience in a commercial construction setting, including direct field exposure Bachelors degree in construction management, project management, engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent field experience considered Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, drawings, and project schedules Foundational knowledge of construction methods, materials, sequencing, and applicable building codes Exposure to project management software (Procore or similar) is a plus Strong written and verbal communication skills Proficient in Microsoft Office Valid drivers license Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times IDEAL CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES: Organized: able to manage competing priorities, track details, and follow through without being reminded Detail-oriented: regularly sweats the small stuff; good enough is never good enough Coachable: actively seeks feedback, applies it quickly, and is honest about what they dont know yet Achievement-oriented: setting and hitting goals is a part of daily life; we reward results rather than effort or time commitment High stress tolerant: can perform well under pressure, multitask, and achieve deadlines Proud: takes pride in the quality of the work we oversee, the results we deliver, and the reputation we command High integrity: is honest, loyal, and consistently follows through on commitments Dependable: adheres to commitments consistently; your word is unbreakable Adaptable: is flexible and able to change direction as project conditions demand Curious and self-starting: asks good questions, seeks to understand the why, and doesnt wait to be told what to do next Professionally balanced: comfortable engaging with owners and clients while being communicative and relatable with subcontractors and vendors Comfortable in a fluid company structure: ability to excel independently without significant structure or position regimentation Fun-loving: comfortable in a work-hard / play-hard culture where wins are fiercely earned and fiercely celebrated RESPONSIBILITIES: Support the Project Manager in understanding project scope, estimate, and contract requirements from project kickoff Assist in the development and maintenance of project schedules, including submittals, procurement, and course-of-construction milestones Help prepare and track subcontracts, purchase orders, and vendor commitments in coordination with the PM and Superintendent Monitor project budgets and assist with financial tracking, cost reporting, and documentation in project management software Conduct regular site visits to observe project progress, quality of work, and adherence to safety protocols Assist with the change order process, including documentation, pricing support, and communication to relevant parties Facilitate and document project meetings, maintain accurate logs, and distribute timely meeting minutes and action items Support the PM in client communications, providing timely and professional updates on project status Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers on scheduling, submittals, and delivery logistics Assist with project closeout activities, including punch list management, documentation, and owner turnover Build working relationships with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and clients that reflect the Goebel Mitts standard Take on increasing project ownership and independent responsibility as experience and performance warrant WORK LOCATION: Overland Park, KS Regular travel around Kansas City Metro COMPENSATION: Base Salary Range: $52,000 - $72,000 Performance Bonus: Up to 10% annual bonus potentialBENEFITS: Employer-sponsored health insurance Employer-sponsored dental insurance Voluntary vision insurance Paid Time Off 401(k) Retirement Plan with Company Match *Some benefits subject to eligibility criteria and waiting period. PERKS: Company Vehicle / Vehicle Stipend Company Phone Plan Company Provided Laptop and iPad ABOUT GOEBEL MITTS CONSTRUCTION:Headquartered in Overland Park, KS, Goebel Mitts Construction is a full-service construction firm offering preconstruction, construction, design-build, general contracting, consulting and construction management services.
