Job Summary

The School Psychologist supports student success by providing psychological assessment, consultation, intervention, and collaborative problem-solving services that promote students' academic achievement, behavioral functioning, social-emotional well-being, and equitable access to educational opportunities.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations to determine eligibility for special education and related services in accordance with federal, state, and district requirements.
  • Interpret assessment results and prepare written evaluation reports that provide educationally relevant recommendations.
  • Participate as a multidisciplinary team member in eligibility, IEP, manifestation determination, and other student support meetings.
  • Support the implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and problem-solving processes.
  • Consult with teachers, administrators, families, and support staff regarding student learning, behavior, social-emotional, and intervention strategies.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of evidence-based academic, behavioral, and social-emotional interventions.
  • Collaborate with school personnel to promote positive school climate, student engagement, and safe learning environments.
  • Monitor student progress and use data to inform educational planning and decision-making.
  • Assist with threat assessment and crisis response activities in accordance with district procedures.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between schools, families, community agencies, and outside service providers.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, records, and reports in compliance with federal, state, and district requirements.
  • Provide professional development and technical assistance to school personnel on topics related to learning, behavior, and special education.
  • Remain current on best practices, legal requirements, and ethical standards within the field of school psychology.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and protected information in accordance with FERPA, IDEA, HIPAA (where applicable), state law, and district policy.
  • Other Duties Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Special Education or designee.

Job Specifications Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required)

  • Valid SC Certification as a School Psychologist II or III.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state special education laws and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Experience conducting psychoeducational evaluations in a school setting.
  • Experience with MTSS, behavior intervention, and crisis response.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasionally lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus;
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time;
  • Manual dexterity for the purpose of using a telephone and data entry;
  • Read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids;
  • Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; and
  • Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, video conferencing, and written communication.
  • Ability to travel between district locations as needed.

The employee primarily works in school settings and offices and may occasionally visit other district facilities. The work may involve exposure to student behavioral crises and moderate noise levels typical of a school environment.

Salary: In accordance with the District's approved Teacher Salary Schedule.
