Technology Writer and Communications Strategist

Location: This is a hybrid position, with 60% of working time performed in office in Arlington. Spire is a full-service communications firm supporting innovative programs in government, technology, healthcare, and science. We are seeking a mid-level technology writer to support a U.S. Air Force client with a technology mission focus. In this role, you will apply curiosity, sound judgment, and the ability to rapidly learn complex subject matter to develop clear, audience-appropriate messaging and draft guidance, strategy, policy, and related communications products for a military technology program. You will gather inputs through stakeholder interviews, research, document review, and other methods, then turn them into compelling, accurate content for internal and external government and industry audiences. This role offers an opportunity to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on cutting-edge initiatives that strengthen mission readiness and national security. The successful candidate will also bring foundational skills in technology marketing and digital communications to help extend the reach, understanding, and adoption of approved program guidance and policy. What You’ll Do Collaborate with subject matter experts to gather technical information, clarify requirements, and develop content that aligns with client objectives and mission needs. Translate complex technical, policy, and programmatic information into clear, accurate, and accessible content for technical and nontechnical government, industry, and other audiences. Develop and refine guidance documents, strategy papers, policy materials, briefing content, messaging frameworks, and other communications products related to data, AI, manufacturing readiness, and emerging technologies. Conduct interviews and review resource documents, synthesizing inputs into well-supported draft content. Edit and proofread content produced by team members, ensuring consistency, quality, readability, and adherence to applicable style requirements. Support the dissemination and adoption of approved guidance and policy by adapting core content into audience-specific communications products, as needed. Help identify communications opportunities that build understanding of program capabilities, technical priorities, and policy direction among relevant government and industry stakeholders. Manage multiple concurrent assignments across technology domains, establish clear priorities, and deliver high-quality work on schedule. What You’ll Bring to Spire 5+ years of experience in technology writing, preferably supporting government defense, aerospace, manufacturing, data, AI, or other complex technical programs. Demonstrated experience developing technical guidance, policy documents, strategy papers, executive briefings, white papers, reports, or other decision-support and stakeholder communications materials. Strong ability to understand and accurately communicate technical concepts related to data, AI, software, industrial technologies, advanced materials, manufacturing, and/or technology development. Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a demonstrated ability to produce clear, accurate, well-structured content that meets government standards and requirements. Ability to synthesize inputs from diverse stakeholders and translate complex technical information into concise, user-friendly content for government, industry, technical, and nontechnical audiences. Foundational knowledge of technology marketing and digital communications, including the ability to adapt approved technical content for web, email, presentation, newsletter, and social media channels within a federal communications environment. Understanding of the review processes and constraints required for public-facing federal communications, including attention to accuracy, accessibility, records management, security, and appropriate use of official communication channels. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Strong interpersonal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to build productive relationships and collaborate effectively with government officials, contractors, technical subject matter experts, and internal teams. Ability to work independently, exercise sound editorial judgment, manage competing priorities, and respond effectively to evolving client needs.
