Accounting Department  Manager

About Us
DCI Publications publishes weekly community newspapers serving Northern Ohio. We're looking for an experienced accountant to lead our accounting team and keep our finances accurate, current, and well organized.

Leading the Team

• Supervise a team of two full-time and one part-time staff member
• Assign and prioritize daily work, set deadlines, and make sure recurring tasks are covered
• Train staff on procedures and cross-train so the department runs smoothly during absences
• Review teamwork for accuracy before it's posted or reported
• Conduct performance check-ins and provide input on hiring and reviews
• Document and improve department processes and internal controls

Financial Responsibilities

• Oversee the general ledger and ensure transactions are recorded accurately in Vision Data
• Manage accounts receivable: advertiser invoicing, payment posting, aging, and collections
• Oversee accounts payable: vendor bills, payment schedules, and vendor records
• Reconcile bank, credit card, and merchant accounts monthly
• Record subscription revenue and reconcile it against circulation records
• Track and reconcile postage accounts, printing, and distribution costs
• Manage payroll processing or coordinate with our payroll provider
• Lead month-end and year-end close, including accruals and adjusting entries
• Prepare financial reports and schedules for the publisher and our outside accountant
• Handle sales tax filings, 1099 preparation, and audit requests
• Maintain organized, confidential financial records

What You Bring

• 5+ years of accounting and/or advanced bookkeeping experience
• 2+ years supervising or leading staff
• Proficiency with accounting software and Excel, and the ability to learn industry-specific systems quickly
• Solid understanding of double-entry accounting, reconciliations, and month-end close
• Ability to manage deadlines for yourself and a team
• Discretion with confidential information
• Clear, fair communication with staff, advertisers, and vendors

Preferred

• Experience with Vision Data or other newspaper/media accounting systems
• Background in newspaper, publishing, or subscription-based businesses
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field

Details

• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Location: In office, Sandusky, OH
• Pay: To be determined, based on experience
