About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Med-Surg Adult Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 7a-7p Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Current nursing license in Maine or compact Certifications: BLS certification required; ACLS certification preferred Must-Have: BSN preferred; ability to problem-solve; critical thinking skills; effective verbal and written communication skills; knowledge of nursing assessment and skills for all age groups; current immunizations including varicella, HepB, MMR, Tdap, and PPD; flu shot during flu season Description: RN license is required. Immunizations are required, including varicella (2 doses or titer), HepB (3 doses or titer or declination), MMR (2 doses or titer), Tdap, and PPD (2 step or titer within the past 12 months). Flu shot is required during flu season. Ability to stand, walk, sit, kneel, stoop, crouch, bend, reach, balance, lift, and push patients in wheelchairs and stretchers. Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. Visual and hearing acuity sufficient to assess patients is necessary. Exposure to infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, toxic cleaning chemicals, and fumes is possible. Responsible for performing initial age-appropriate nursing assessments. Completing ongoing age-appropriate reassessments is required. Responsible for completing discharge assessments to identify patient needs. Must identify priorities for nursing care delivery. Development and implementation of the plan of care based on patient needs and physician orders is essential. Execute appropriate nursing actions to achieve patient goals. Communicate patient care activities to healthcare team members effectively. Update healthcare team members on the current status and changes in the plan as needed. Document patient care activities in accordance with established standards and policies. Initiate specialty/supplemental nursing notes as appropriate. Assist with patient charges as necessary. Deliver patient care in accordance with hospital policies and within the scope of the state's Nursing Practice Act. Maintain a physical environment that supports patient and staff safety and wellness. Ensure that supplies and equipment are readily available and in safe working order. Report situations involving questionable safety or legality promptly to the nursing manager. Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to implement procedures in the event of a disaster. Demonstrate proficiency in drug administration and its effects. Utilize appropriate drug reference sources for medication information. Administer medications correctly using the five rights through medication verification. Evaluate patient responses to medications. Assess the need for patient and family education and provide teaching as required. Complete discharge plans and ensure patient and family understanding. Perform follow-up calls to patients as necessary. Assess nursing care throughout the shift. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and bedside rounding. Promote the organization and its employees through professional behavior. Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives and report any quality issues in service delivery. Demonstrate commitment to quality improvement and organizational excellence. Participate in emergency/disaster preparedness planning and drills as requested. Respond to real-life disaster or emergency events within the scope of professional abilities.
