Florida Litigation Reporter Department: Content Editorial & Research Employment Type: Full Time Location: Florida Reporting To: Samantha Joseph Compensation: $60,000 - $65,000 / year Description About the Team As part of Law.com’s strategic intelligence business, the litigation team delivers authoritative coverage of cutting‑edge legal issues, consequential court cases and emerging litigation trends—along with the lawyers, judges and professionals driving those developments. Our journalism functions as decision intelligence for a sophisticated legal and business audience, helping leaders assess risk, identify opportunities and understand the strategic implications of litigation. We operate with a data‑and insight‑driven mindset, connecting individual cases and rulings to broader market signals and shifts in litigation strategy. The South Florida–based reporter will join a collaborative, nationally distributed team working closely with editors and colleagues across major legal markets, contributing both regional expertise and perspective to national coverage. The Role This is a high‑visibility assignment with state and national reach and real market impact. You will produce authoritative, insight‑driven coverage of litigation in one of the country’s most active legal markets—surfacing early signals in filings, rulings and courtroom developments and connecting them to broader industry and business trends. You will be expected to deliver breaking news at speed, sophisticated analysis with authority and enterprise reporting that explains what is changing in litigation—and why it matters to legal professionals making strategic decisions. Key Responsibilities Cover state and federal courts in Florida, with particular emphasis on the Florida Supreme Court and federal appellate courts. Report on major court decisions, key filings and consequential lawsuits, translating developments into clear takeaways for a highly sophisticated audience. Surface early signals by monitoring filings, docket activity and case patterns to identify trends, anomalies and inflection points before they are widely recognized. Produce breaking news on tight deadlines for a local and national audience. Leverage resources—from human intelligence and deep dives into case filing data and other statistics, to our data‑driven and analytical Radar team and AI—to surface trends and shifts in the litigation landscape before others recognize them. Balance daily news coverage with quick‑turn enterprise pieces and longer‑form features examining litigation issues, law firm strategy and broader legal trends in Florida and beyond. Connect local and regional reporting with coverage from colleagues across Law.com’s global newsroom to identify national trend stories and multi‑market projects. Develop and maintain a strong network of litigators, judges and legal professionals to generate exclusive insight and strengthen the authority and credibility of coverage. Collaborate effectively with reporters and editors across geographies and platforms, contributing to social media and audience engagement. Write with clarity and authority on litigation topics that influence legal risk, strategy and outcomes. As a baseline, reporters are expected to average at least one story per day and one enterprise story per week, while consistently meeting Law.com’s high editorial standards. Qualifications Exceptional writing skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise and authoritative journalism on deadline. Demonstrated ability to establish and nurture relationships with lawyers, judges and legal stakeholders. Thrives in a fast‑paced, high‑standards environment; able to juggle breaking news, analysis and enterprise reporting simultaneously. Willing and eager to attend and cover court hearings and trials in person. Ability to write two to three stories per day and deliver regular quick‑turn enterprise work, including four enterprise stories a month. A disciplined, ownership‑oriented mindset and commitment to editorial rigor and accuracy. Strong communication, organization and time‑management skills; collaborative and dependable. Creative, curious and enthusiastic about using social platforms, visual storytelling, interactive data and digital tools to enhance reporting and connect with readers. Ideally two to three years of experience in a daily news environment; experience in legal or business journalism is a plus, though strong recent graduates are encouraged to apply. Comfort working with basic data—such as filings volume, docket trends and litigation patterns—to support enterprise reporting and analysis is a plus. Must be based in or around South Florida. Benefits 15 vacation days, 12 company holidays, three personal days, one day to volunteer at the organization of your choice, plus a day off for your birthday each year.
