Job Description We are seeking a Life Science Research Professional 1 to join a multi-disciplinary team consisting of molecular biologists, geneticists, and computational scientists. The project builds on recent initiatives at the Stanford University Cardiovascular Institute Biobank (SCVI) to generate large numbers of human iPSCs for disease modeling and drug screening. The LSRP will assist in the differentiation of human iPSC lines into cardiomyocytes with the goal of building a cardiomyocyte pipeline for drug discovery studies, including primary phenotypic screening, target elucidation, and physiological assays for evaluating cardiotoxicity. The role involves maintaining patient‑specific iPSC and gene‑edited stem cell lines, performing QC assays during differentiation, and supporting future toxicity and drug‑screening work using iPSC‑derived cardiomyocytes. Responsibilities Plan approach to experiments in support of research projects in the lab and/or field based on scientific knowledge. Independently conduct experiments and maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes. Apply life‑science theories and methods to interpret and analyze experimental results, offering suggestions for procedure modifications in collaboration with senior researchers. Review literature routinely to stay current with new procedures and apply learnings to related research. Contribute to publication of findings as needed and prepare written documents, including procedures, presentations, and proposals. Help with general lab maintenance, including lab stock, chemical inventory, safety records, and general lab support. Assist with orientation and training of new staff or students on lab procedures or techniques. Other duties may be assigned. Qualifications Bachelor of Science in molecular biology or a related discipline. Experience and excellent practical skills in human cell culture techniques. Experience in a range of molecular biology methods. Excellent organization and record‑keeping skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Effective communication with team members and collaborators. Understanding of biological safety regulations and procedures. General understanding of scientific principles and ability to apply theoretical knowledge to problem‑solve work. Detailed record‑keeping of experiments and outcomes. General computer skills and quick learning of scientific applications. Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance. Physical Requirements Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly or forcefully, perform desk‑based computer tasks, use the telephone, write by hand, and lift or carry objects over 40 pounds. Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach, and work above shoulders; sort and file paperwork or parts. Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop, or mix, or operate hand and foot controls. Correct vision is required to perform job duties. Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours. Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50 pounds. Work in dusty, dirty, and odorous environments is required. Repetitive motion may occur.
