With more than 12,000 team members—physicians, surgeons, nurses, pharmacists and other highly skilled health care professionals—UofL Health is focused on one mission: delivering patient-centered care to each and every patient each and every day.# **Job Description:****Position Summary and Purpose** This position is responsible and accountable for total units operations on a 24-hour basis to include fiscal management, staff development, and resource management with the ultimate goal of achieving quality and safe patient care.**Essential Functions:*** Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.* Supervises assigned professional, technical, and clerical staff of the department to ensure the quality of work.* Manages the workflow of the unit to ensure the delivery of quality patient care.* Implements and supports quality improvement activities for the department.* Develops staffing patterns and ensures availability of sufficient qualified staff to meet patient care needs.* Works to develop and retain highly skilled and well-rounded staff including orienting, training, directing work, evaluating performance and assuring clinical competency.* Contributes to the effective management of the department including supplies, equipment, space, technology, policies and procedures* Contributes to the financial viability of the organization including managing productivity and budgeting process.* Maintains effective working relationships, communication and collaborative decision making with medical staff, other departments, leaders, staff and others.* Assists the organization in maintaining and achieving its goals related to licensure, regulatory, and accreditation standards.* Demonstrates commitment to professional growth and competence.* Responsible for accurate and timely delivery of various reports including staff schedules, labor productivity, IRIS and others as assigned.* Participates in community activities on behalf of the organization.* Other duties as assigned by management.**Other Functions:** • Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct • Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times • Performs other duties as assigned# **Additional Job Description:****Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Licensure and Certification)** • Graduate of a state approved school of nursing, associate degree in nursing (required) (bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program (preferred) • Licensed Registered Nurse in the state of Kentucky. • BLS through the American Heart Association. • Three years of RN experience, including 2 years of management.**Job Competency: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities critical to this role:** • Understanding and awareness of policies, procedures, rules, and regulations • Clear and analytical thinking • Customer service orientation - responsive, informs constituents of process, pleasant to work with, educates and provides timely, accurate information • Demonstrates flexibility and functions as a change agent – ability to change directions as needed for the good of the department or organization and willingness to champion those changes to others • Professionalism – is able to perform work in a neat, efficient, well-coordinated, well communicated manner with a high degree of accuracy and professionalism • Excellent conflict management skills • Ability to assist in the development of self and others • Team leadership - ability to work with others, serve others, help others, lead others, mentor others, take directions from others in the interest of moving process and programs forward to the desired outcomeLanguage Ability: • Example: Must be able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats.Reasoning Ability: • Example: Able to critically think through complex patient situations, process improvements, evidence-based practice. • Example: Able to assist others in developing clinical reasoning skills.
