Job Description

This role focuses on welding stainless steel and carbon steel piping systems using TIG (GTAW) and STICK (SMAW) processes in industrial and construction environments. You will interpret technical drawings, perform precise layout and fit-up, and complete high-quality welds that meet strict project specifications and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Weld stainless steel and carbon steel piping using TIG (GTAW) and STICK (SMAW) processes to meet project specifications.

• Read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, welding symbols, and technical schematics to plan and execute pipe welding tasks accurately.

• Perform layout and fit-up of pipe systems, ensuring correct alignment, measurements, and joint preparation before welding.

• Conduct visual inspections and quality checks on welds to verify integrity, accuracy, and compliance with applicable standards.

• Use appropriate pipe welding tools and equipment safely and efficiently throughout all phases of the work.

• Collaborate closely with pipefitters, foremen, and project managers to coordinate work and meet project deadlines.

• Follow established safety protocols and procedures while working in heavy industrial plants and construction sites.

• Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper handling and storage of tools, equipment, and materials.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 5 years of experience working with stainless steel and carbon steel piping systems.

• Proficiency in TIG (GTAW) welding techniques for pipe applications.

• Proficiency in STICK (SMAW) welding techniques for pipe applications.

• Ability to pass weld tests in accordance with project or site requirements.

• Strong understanding of pipe welding tools, equipment, and their proper use.

• Strong understanding of welding safety protocols and safe work practices.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, welding symbols, and technical schematics.

• Ability to perform accurate layout and fit-up of piping systems prior to welding.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is preferred.

• Experience working in heavy industrial plants and new construction environments.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with pipefitters, foremen, and project managers.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds.

• Solid problem-solving skills when addressing fit-up, alignment, or field conditions.

Work Environment

You will work in a variety of settings, including heavy industrial plants and new construction sites, performing pipe welding tasks in active, production-focused environments. Example facilities in the Charleston area include large industrial plants and terminals. The role may involve exposure to noise, heat, confined spaces, elevated work areas, and outdoor conditions, depending on the site. You will use standard pipe welding tools and equipment, including TIG and STICK welding machines, cutting tools, and layout instruments, while adhering to strict safety protocols. Work hours may vary by project, with schedules aligned to site requirements and project timelines, and you should be prepared for field-based work and travel as needed.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Moncks Corner, SC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $34.00/hr.
