Director of Sales

The Director of Sales is a strategic and results-driven commercial leader responsible for developing and executing the hotel’s sales strategy. This individual will lead efforts to grow group, business travel, and negotiated account revenue while strengthening the hotel’s position within the local market and broader hospitality landscape. Working closely with the Managing Director and revenue, marketing, catering, and operations leaders, the Director of Sales will identify new business opportunities, cultivate meaningful client relationships, and translate market insights into measurable results. This leader brings an entrepreneurial mindset, a strong understanding of the hotel’s unique story, and the ability to inspire a high-performing sales culture. Requested Tasks Develop and execute a comprehensive sales strategy aligned with the hotel’s positioning, annual budget, and revenue goals. Drive revenue across group, business travel, negotiated, entertainment, and other assigned market segments. Identify and pursue new business opportunities through prospecting, networking, referrals, market research, and community engagement. Establish strategic account plans for key clients, industries, and market segments. Partner with Revenue Management to evaluate pace, need periods, pricing opportunities, and market trends. Maintain a strong understanding of competitive hotels, local demand generators, and emerging market opportunities. Participate in the annual budgeting and forecasting process, providing accurate sales projections and market insights. Build and maintain meaningful relationships with clients, meeting planners, travel partners, corporate accounts, and community leaders. Conduct sales calls, property tours, presentations, client events, and market visits that bring the hotel’s story and experience to life. Negotiate agreements and business terms that support revenue goals while protecting the hotel’s positioning and profitability. Actively participate in industry organizations, trade shows, networking events, and community partnerships. Ensure key accounts receive consistent communication, thoughtful service, and proactive follow-up. Lead, coach, and develop the hotel sales team, establishing clear expectations, goals, and accountability. Represent the hotel and Makeready with professionalism, creativity, and genuine hospitality. Progressive hotel sales experience, including leadership within an independent, lifestyle, boutique, luxury, or full-service hotel environment. Proven success developing sales strategies and achieving or exceeding revenue goals. Strong knowledge of group, business travel, negotiated, and other hotel market segments. Established relationships within relevant local, regional, or national markets are highly valued. Exceptional communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills. Ability to interpret market data, revenue reports, forecasts, and performance metrics. Strategic and creative thinker with a proactive approach to business development. Inspiring people leader with the ability to coach, motivate, and hold a team accountable. Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Genuine passion for hospitality, storytelling, and creating memorable client and guest experiences. Proficiency with hotel sales platforms, customer relationship management systems, and Microsoft Office.
