Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

Job Summary:

The VDH Oracle OCI Cloud Engineer is responsible for designing, managing, and maintaining Oracle Cloud Infrastructure environments with a focus on database, middleware, and infrastructure components. This role requires expertise in Oracle technologies, cloud architecture, and database management, supporting high availability, disaster recovery, and performance optimization. The position includes hybrid work with on-site and remote days, and demands availability for after-hours and weekend support as part of an on-call rotation. Responsibilities:

• Design and manage Oracle OCI environments including databases, middleware, and infrastructure.
• Develop and maintain Oracle APEX applications and Oracle REST Data Services (ORDS).
• Configure and administer Oracle WebLogic Server and related middleware technologies.
• Plan and execute database upgrades, migrations, and conversions.
• Implement and manage backup, recovery, and replication strategies using RMAN and Oracle Data Guard.
• Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and data protection for Oracle environments.
• Monitor and optimize database performance through tuning and maintenance.
• Automate routine tasks using shell scripting, Ansible, and other tools.
• Collaborate with development and DevOps teams for seamless application deployment.
• Provide timely support by identifying and resolving potential issues proactively.
• Document best practices and provide training on Oracle OCI environment management.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• 10+ years of hands-on experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and related technologies.
• Expertise with Oracle Application Express (APEX) 18 and higher.
• Experience with Oracle REST Data Services (ORDS) 22 and higher.
• Proficiency in Oracle WebLogic Server 14, including Fusion Middleware and WebLogic suite.
• Strong experience with Oracle Database 19c and 26ai Container and Pluggable Databases.
• Experience upgrading Oracle Database from 19c to 26ai.
• Proficiency in Linux/Unix administration and shell scripting.
• Expertise in RMAN backup/recovery, PDB cloning, and Oracle Data Guard.
• WebLogic administration including patching and maintenance.
• Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) 24ai and PSU patching using Fleet Management Tool.
• Experience with DBaaS in OCI.
• Proficiency in GitLab and Ansible scripting.
• Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts and architecture.
• Ability to design and implement high-availability and disaster recovery solutions.
• Experience with Oracle OEM Cloud Control for monitoring and management.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to provide 24/7 support and troubleshoot critical issues.
• On-call production support experience.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Certifications in Oracle technologies such as OCIP, OCP, or OCE.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or GitLab CI.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python and JavaScript.
• Understanding of microservices architecture and API integration.
• Experience with Windows, SQL Server, and IIS administration.
• Experience with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure administration.

Special Considerations:

• Candidate must participate in an on-call rotation providing after-hours and weekend support.
• Availability for after-hours and weekend work is required based on workload.
• Candidate must be willing to work onsite in Richmond, VA as required.
• Absences greater than two weeks require prior approval and must maintain reachable contact information.

Scheduling:

• Hybrid work schedule: 3 days onsite and 2 days remote per week.
• Evenings and weekends on-demand availability required.
• Participation in on-call rotation for 24/7 support.
