School Nutrition General Worker - Substitute (Casual/Seasonal) Location: Any school location in the Colonial School District. Hours: 3 hours per day when assigned, typically 10:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. or 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.; hours are as needed. Compensation: $21.54 per hour. FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt. Work Year: 10 months. Position Goal Participate in the overall provision of meal service to children for breakfast and/or lunch. Duties include setting up serving lines, preparing and delivering food to children and staff, cashiering, dishwashing, and maintaining the cleanliness of kitchen facilities and service areas. The role ensures meals are prepared, served, and stored in an environment that promotes food safety, sanitation, and a warm, inviting eating experience for students and staff. Minimum Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent. Ability to read, write, and follow instructions. Willingness to learn meal pattern requirements as specified by the USDA Child Nutrition Program. Ability to attend district‑sponsored in‑service for personal or professional growth, state unit courses, and ServeSafe certification. Willingness to perform cashier duties. Commitment to personal cleanliness and to upholding standards of sanitation related to meal preparation, service, and storage. Capacity to work in a fast‑paced school‑nutrition environment and collaborate with others. Physical ability to lift up to 40 pounds and stand on cement floors for up to six hours. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintain regular attendance and work in all kitchen areas as assigned. Perform tasks in food preparation, serving line, cashiering, dishwashing, and cleaning as directed. Follow safe food‑handling practices and maintain health, sanitation, and safety standards. Learn operation, care, and cleaning of school‑nutrition equipment. Record daily use of food and supplies from storerooms, refrigerators, or freezers. Clean and sanitize cafeteria tables after meal service and as needed. Keep all work and storage areas clean. Assist co‑workers and proactively address kitchen needs. Participate actively in promoting the Colonial District School Nutrition program. Display a cooperative and accommodating attitude toward coworkers, students, faculty, and administrators. Perform additional tasks or duties as assigned by the Manager/Lead Worker, Building Principal, or School Nutrition Supervisor/Specialist. Physical Demands Requires regular use of hands and fingers for handling work; reaching, talking, hearing, tasting, and smelling. Frequently stand, walk, and sit. Occasional lifting or moving up to 40 pounds and repetitive stooping, twisting, and bending. Must tolerate extreme temperatures. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Standard Requirements Satisfactory criminal background check (less than 1 year old). Delaware Childhood Protection Registry report. TB test results (less than 1 year old). Signed Social Security card for payroll. I‑9 form with appropriate identification. Mandatory direct deposit of paycheck.
