Position Summary
We are seeking an ambitious, self-motivated, and experienced Asphalt Paving Foreman to lead our daily field operations in Bend and Central Oregon.
In this role, you will manage our paving crew on-site, overseeing everything from machine operation (including running screed) to quality control, safety compliance, and crew production. You will serve as the primary link between field operations, project managers, and clients, ensuring jobs are completed safely, on schedule, and up to high quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Field Crew Leadership & Operations
- Oversee daily field operations for asphalt paving, patching, overlay, and site preparation projects.
- Direct and manage the paving crew (operators, rakers, laborers, rollermen) to maintain high efficiency and quality craftsmanship.
- Hands-on operation of heavy equipment when necessary, including setting and running the paver screed, roller, and base equipment.
- Plan daily production targets, review job site specifications, and review project specs before breaking ground.
Logistics & Material Management
- Coordinate dispatching of trucks, material delivery (hot mix asphalt tonnage, asphalt type), and equipment transport.
- Monitor material temperatures, mix quality, compaction rates, and yield to prevent waste and ensure long-lasting pavement strength.
- Read and interpret job site plans, civil layouts, grades, and drainage slope measurements.
Quality Control & Safety
- Enforce strict safety protocols, OSHA standards, and daily tailgate safety meetings to ensure a safe work environment.
- Conduct post-job walk-throughs to verify density, smoothness, transitions, joint seams, and edge quality.
- Complete daily job reports, crew time tracking, equipment inspection sheets, and material delivery logs.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on asphalt paving experience, with at least 1–2 years in a foreman or lead crew capacity.
- Technical Skills: Proven proficiency operating asphalt pavers, screeds, rollers, and related earthwork equipment.
- Knowledge: Understanding of Central Oregon terrain, soil conditions, grade/drainage management, and asphalt mix behavior in variable weather.
- Driver's License: Valid Oregon Driver’s License with a clean driving record (CDL Class A or B preferred).
- Leadership: Strong communication skills, problem-solving ability, and a positive team-first mindset.
- Physical Capability: Ability to stand/walk for long hours, lift 50+ lbs, and work outdoors in varying high-desert weather conditions.
- Background Check: Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
