POSITION PURPOSE
The Associate in the Finance and Development Unit (FDU) within the Housing Team strategizes, creates, and executes client-focused scopes of work primarily focused on affordable housing development, finance, and feasibility. They analyze the opportunity, feasibility, and risks of developing affordable housing on underutilized land for a range of clients, including cities, counties, the State of California, school districts, colleges & universities, and faith-based institutions. Additionally, this role assists clients in understanding the framework and challenges of affordable housing development, to support them in achieving the best possible outcomes for internal and external stakeholders. Lastly, the Associate in the FDU will manage affordable housing real estate projects and support stakeholders in implementing, monitoring, and improving affordable housing funding programs.
WORKING HOURS
Standard hours Monday-Friday, eight hours per day. This position is mostly remote and must be able to work during Pacific Standard/Daylight Time.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Occasional travel may be required.
HOW YOU IMPACT SUCCESS
- Analyze – Conduct research and analysis on housing, homelessness, community development, and related policy issues, using both qualitative and quantitative data to develop reports, studies, presentations, and recommendations.
- Engage – Coordinate stakeholder engagement and community outreach efforts, prepare communication materials, manage project documentation, and support the successful implementation and tracking of key initiatives.
- Execute – Perform affordable housing feasibility and real estate underwriting analyses, identify business development opportunities, maintain data and reporting systems, and provide general administrative and project support as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in economics, real estate, urban studies/planning or public policy or related field or equivalent work experience. Master’s degree preferred.
- 2+ years relevant work experience as a Project Manager, Assistant Project Manager, Housing Development Manager, Assistant Housing Development Manager, or Analyst required.
- Prior experience in affordable housing finance, project financial proformas, current policies/programs and funding sources is preferred but not required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint) required.
- Proficiency with web-based project management tools such as ClickUp or Asana is also preferred but not required.
