Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.Job Role Summary: The Certified Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician performs imaging of the eye for diagnostic treatment, educational and research purposes in support of the Department of Ophthalmology. This position is responsible for the entire patient "work up" functions for residents and staff physicians, including obtaining accurate patient histories based on chief complaints and/or diagnoses.Essential Functions and Responsibilities:Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County. Models Eskenazi Health values of Professionalism, Respect, Innovation, Development and ExcellencePerforms all imaging eye modalities including Humphrey Visual Fields, Goldman Visual Fields, Confrontational Visual Fields, Pachemetry, Fundus Photography/Florescence Angiogram/ICG, Blood draws, OCT, Pentacam Topography, IOL Master/Immersion A Scan, B-Scan, UBM, Keratometry, and Manual and auto lensometryPerforms manual refraction and auto refractionPerforms basic biomicroscopyDemonstrates knowledge of the following tests and when they should be used: Stereo, Amsler Grid, Neuro Color plates, CFVF, Afferent Pupil Defect, Motility Assessment, Cover Test with the basic strabismus diagnosisDilates patients' eyes and administers topical ophthalmic and oral medications per physicians ordersPerforms tonometryPerforms surgical scheduling if requiredPerforms stocking and cleaning of exam rooms and maintains clinics equipmentParticipates in surgical or research studiesJob Requirements:High school education equivalent (GED)Minimum of 1 year previous experience working in a hospital or patient care environment with public interaction preferredCertification for Ophthalmic Assistant by the American Academy of Ophthalmology preferred but must be obtained within two years of employment.
