The Product Owner is responsible for delivering product outcomes and functionality that meet customer and user needs. They will translate product vision and insights into prioritized features and user stories, developed by their agile team of 8–10 members.This role collaborates with Candescent clients and Product Managers to identify and prioritize requirements for enhancements to the Banking Platform. Product Owners also work with the Product Advisory Council, participating in user group discussions and presenting both strategic and tactical functionality. Additional responsibilities include release planning, product roadmap maintenance, and backlog grooming for assigned Candescent Banking Services initiatives.Product MissionOur mission is to empower financial institutions through a unified data ecosystem that transforms raw information into actionable insights. We create centers of excellence to govern data, ethics, and compliance, and accelerate progress through a unified data platform that ensures consistent, high-quality, and continuously refreshed data and metadata across the ecosystem.Key Areas of ResponsibilityLead efforts to define specific functions, integration requirements, user experiences, and deployment strategies for delivery to both the company and marketDevelop, shape, and refine user stories, problem statements, and acceptance criteria to ensure efficient and effective team consumptionCollaborate with the broader product organization to ensure integration across all Candescent Digital Banking Technology productsWork closely with the development team to ensure that delivered products meet specified requirements and are delivered on time and within budgetDrive understanding of the work to be completed by the development team, supporting effective sprint sequencing and incremental deliveryParticipate actively in scrum ceremonies such as sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, daily stand-ups, and demosMaintain functional quality by setting and evaluating expectations and acceptance criteriaPresent and train internal customers on new platform features and services released in each versionPrepare explanatory documentation for customers on existing and new platform functionalityDocument business requirements using the company's software development tools and methodologyProduct P&L and PricingCollaborate with the Product Manager to manage product profitability and performance, ensuring alignment with short- and long-term product objectives and roadmapsProduct Strategy, Vision, and PlanningGather customer and user needs, along with market research, to inform the product vision and strategy created by the Product ManagerUse the product vision and insights to define product features and prioritize the team’s backlogCustomer Experience Research, Insights, and ExecutionDemonstrate a deep understanding of customers and users through the development of insights, including personas, journey maps, and product chartersProduct Design and DevelopmentParticipate in PI (Program Increment) planning to prioritize the roadmap and inform team backlogsWrite and prioritize user stories based on business needs, user requirements, and technical feasibilityContinuously refine the product backlog by analyzing value versus effortDefine acceptance criteria and validate that features and stories meet user quality standardsDrive product development in collaboration with cross-functional teams and engage stakeholders (e.g., PMs, other POs, functions) to manage dependencies and resolve issuesQualificationsBachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience5+ years of experience in the finance industry, preferably with large-scale digital, online, or mobile banking applications for consumers or small businessesStrong understanding of complex business and technical problemsProven experience delivering software products through the definition, design, and release cycleExperience with Agile/Scrum methodologies throughout the software development lifecycleFamiliarity with industry standards such as PCI, WCAG, and FFIECStrong leadership, project management, time management, and problem-solving skillsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsDeep understanding of user and business needs to create and prioritize user stories that deliver valueAbility to prioritize based on business value, user impact, and technical feasibilityProduct Specific Qualifications / SkillsetsStrong experience with databases, data lake and data warehousing systemsStrong knowledge of data governance standards and processesHands-on experience of SQL, ETL, data flow, and DB schema designExperience with modern data platforms and data solutions (e.g. Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery) on clouds (e.g. AWS, GCP)Ability to have in-depth technical discussions with engineering teams on end-2-end data flow, schema design, solution, scalability, performance, reliability, and securitySolid understanding of data analysis with statistical methods or AI/MLExperience with data visualization tools like Looker, Tableau, QuickSight, or Tableau for building and communicating insightsExperience taking data products from inception to launch in the fintech, banking, payments, or financial services area is a big plusStatement to Third Party AgenciesTo ALL recruitment agencies: Candescent only accepts resumes from agencies on the preferred supplier list.
