Title: Safe Schools Monitor


Reports to: Principal


Terms of Employment: Full Time (10 months)


Salary: $2703.95- $3276.86 (monthly)


FLSA Exempt/Non-Exempt: Non - Exempt

Qualifications:

  • Academic background or related work experience
  • Skills related to school or public safety or security
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described below
Job Goal:
  • To promote a safe, orderly, and caring environment by performing a variety of security related activities, including monitoring of the campus, designed to increase school safety and reduce school violence.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Maintain high visibility throughout the building and grounds.
  • Collaborates closely with the school resource officer (SRO).
  • Monitors student behavior and communicates with school staff and administration.
  • Communicates effectively with students, parents, administration, and staff.
  • Serves on the Student Services Team and the School Crisis Team.
  • Assists the administrative staff with security concerns.
  • Participates in professional growth opportunities.
  • Completes daily activity log and other accountability reports as assigned.
  • Makes recommendations to school administration and staff utilizing needs assessment data and observations.
  • Serves as a team player and role model for other employees in the organization; demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement; supports and exhibits organizational core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, being customer driven, and valuing diversity.
  • Possess the visual acuity to work with data and figures, operate a computer, do extensive reading and prepare and present written and oral reports and statistical data.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Additional Requirements:
  • Must be certified, or working towards certification, in CPI (verbal de-escalation/therapeutic holds)
  • Good knowledge of the school system and individual school crisis response and emergency plans
  • Good knowledge of conflict resolution, aggression management, crisis intervention and de-escalation strategies, student and staff self protection, crime prevention, and drug and alcohol prevention.
  • Must have a working knowledge of current trends in gang activity.
  • Possess the visual acuity to work with data and figures, operate a computer, do extensive reading and prepare and present written and oral reports and statistical data.
  • Must be able to work as a team player.
Physical and Cognitive Requirements:


Work in this classification is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.

Must be able to:
  • Walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, kneel, crouch
  • Use visual acuity in preparing and analyzing written or computer data
  • Visually inspect small defect and/or small parts
  • Operate a variety of machines, and job specific equipment or tools
  • Use technology in an effective and productive manner
  • Determine the accuracy and thoroughness of work
  • Observe general surroundings and activities
  • Communicate by spoken word to express or exchange ideas and convey detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly
  • Safely work in situations of exposure to blood borne pathogens which may require specialized personal protective equipment
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Establish positive relationships with students
  • Deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions
  • Perform under stress, deal with persons activating under stress and adapt when confronted with emergency situations
  • Work with both children and adults with disabilities
  • Talk and hear (talk: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words. Hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear.)
